SHIPSHEWANA FLEA MARKET AND AUCTION is open May 6th through October 29, 2008 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  You can find hundreds of vendors selling everything from fresh fruit to handcrafted furniture.  You will find antique, livestock and horse auction on the same grounds located on SR 5 in Shipshewana. Don't leave town without experiencing home-style Amish or Mennonite cooking at several of the local resturtants.  It is a fun trip, whether you are from out of state or just down the road!

SHIPSHEWANA-is located in the north western section of LaGrange County.  It was incorporated in 1916 and the town was named for Chief Shipshewana of the Potawatomi tribe that lived in the area. Shipsheweana has a strong religious history.  The first settlement of Amish came to the area from Pennsylvania in 1844-many demoninations have settled in and around the area. The population is about 540, with a police department and volunteer fire department.  Students attend Shipshewana-Scott Elementary School and Meadowview Elementary while the 5th through 12th grades attend Westview Junior and Senior High School.
