Effects of Local Elections I was asked today by a customer, "Steve what affect will the elections tomorrow have on real estate and home building."My thoughts, summarized of course. First I think that the current state of anti-growth in Porter County is beginning to reach it's natural end. Our commissioners have shown little energy or strength to combat this obviously failed policy. If we stop growing, we stop creating jobs. We need the jobs.In Portage I think that Dave Highlands untimely death portends a classic power struggle in the Democratic Party, with the winner facing some unknown Republican in November. FATHER SON ACTIVITYThe Bass Pro Shop in Portage will be having some children's fishing activities this season. I will find out more info and keep you posted. Dad's practice up on those fishing techniques. You don't want those kids to show you up.  There is also a gun range on the second floor for those little hunters.  There is also an archery range.  There are two huge fish tanks one freshwater and one saltwater.  There are also a lot of stuffed wildlife throughout the store.  Either way Dad, it is a good excuse  to check on the merchandise there.  It is located off of I80- 94 at the 249 exit.

Islamorada Island Restaurant is located in Bass Pro Shops.  It is located in the Ameriplex complex north of I-94 off of 249. The atmosphere is very under the sea.  There is a large saltwater fish tank to look at.   The food was excellent.  I went with a three other individuals we each ordered something different.I was able to try to the Coconut shrimp for an appetizer, for dinner Fried Walleye, Fried Mahi Mahi, the Ribs and the Shrimp Pasta the bread they send to the table was delicious. For dessert I had the Key Lime Pie it was delicious.  The crust was incredible. I recommend trying the restaurant.

As the President-elect of the Porter County Builders Association I have the opportunity to see a glimpse of what's going on countywide.   I got an email late last week asking for my interpretations of the market for new homes here locally.  This is a reprint of the response I sent.I believe that 2007 will be a very solid home building year for Porter County.   I know that I'm expected to say that, but I can honestly report my projections.   I was also honest in 2005 in my feeling that new homes would decline, I did not expect 25%, that was a bigger decline than I expected.A couple things that lead me to project so much more activity in 2007:In 2006 we underbuilt the demand.  Our projections would have been for 200 more homes demanded in 2006 and frankly builders got nervous and slowed w...
