Not too often I can go ahead and brag about looking worse than the kids who dress up for Halloween.  However, this Halloween consisted of a lot of fun for the entire family.  On Friday we had the first annual Chili Cook Off.  It was awesome.  We had 10 different types of Chili.  I've never made chili before, but I did make it this night.  Let's say that I didn't make the top 3.  The next day was Halloween.  It was awesome.  Here I am with my oldest son.  He looks really old here.  I'm really not sure who looks worse, but my wife almost peed in her pants laughing so hard.  It was a lot of fun and my kids said that it was the best Halloween they'd ever had.  Sure, this is a day after speechless sundays, but I really had a lot of fun to share!

Halloween is just around the corner!  Every year I like to give a lot of shout outs to protecting your children. My kids actually like Halloween, but I think that they like the party and the chili afterwards more than the actual trick or treating.  I'm the same way.  However, I'm a NAZI about child protection.  There's a lot of wierdo's out there....and in this world more than ever. Halloween isn't probably as big of a deal for the wierdos, but the time is right and there've been too many horror stories in years gone past. Keeping the children protected means staying away from wierdos.  Needless to say you need to watch your kids year round....but...without further ado.... By Noon today over 900 Saint Charles East students were home with some sort of illness. As a result, District 303 Officials have decided to close the school for the rest of the week.  According to Ron Schlomann this decision was made because of a lot of absences, plus the desire to not have the illnesses transfer further.  Needless to say, it's reported that no one has the Swine flu or the H1V1.

With all the crap going on in politics, it's actually refreshing to see that they are doing something nice and well for the taxpayer.  They've created the Emergency Contact Database.  Just so cool.  Check out http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/drivers/ecd/home.html. Join The Emergency Contact Database This database allows Illinois instruction permit, driver's license and identification card holders to enter their emergency contact information into a voluntary, secure database. Starting in August 2009, in the event of a motor vehicle crash or other emergency situation where a person is unable to communicate directly, law enforcement may access this database to help them reach the person's designated emergency contacts. If a person holds both an Illinois driver's license or per...

Looking for a special way to spend an Illinois fall weekend? St. Charles, just an hour west of Chicago, may have the perfect activity for you and your family from October 9th through 11th. It's the 24th Annual Scarecrow Festival. While it's probably not impossible to have a whole festival planned around scarecrows, St. Charles'  festival has a lot more going for it than just scarecrows. First of all, there are two free trolleys running around the Festival so it's easy to get around and see everything. Be sure to see all the scarecrows on exhibit and vote for your favorites. After casting your vote, take the kids to the petting zoo, get their faces painted and let them create their own scarecrow. Other activities include a space museum, carnival area, model railroad exhibit, and of cours...

Just had my 15 year law school reunion at Northern Illinois University on Saturday.  Man was it a blast.  It started with tailgaiting at the NIU School of Law Alumni Tent.   Free food, beer, and pop and cupcakes for the kids.  Afterwords, we went to the Northern Illinois University vs. Western Michigan University game which NIU won 38-3.  Just an awesome game. Then we went to the bookstore & ate at Burrittoville, the midnight mecca of NIU after drinking parties.  Had some killer mexican food.  Finally, we went to the reception.  I gave the kids the tour of the law schoo.  There were some really cool changes to the school.  The favorite of the kids?  Seeing dad's picture for the class of 1994.  "Boy dad....you looked like a boy then."  "Gee thanks kids.....I became aged by raising you fi...

Saint Patrick's Catholic Grade School is the highest rated grade school in the diocese of Rockford.  Of course, I used to be the president of Saint Patrick's School Board, and therefore, I'm biased.  However, I was a graduate of saint patrick's myself and probably had no business to go on and be a great success, but for whatever reasons I did.  A few of the teachers that put up with me are now teaching my children.  Besides this, the school truly is ranked ahead of all of the public schools anywhere in the Kane County Area.  As an investment it is an incredible investment into your children.  What's always amazed me is how a lot of private schools can do a better job educating children for so much less per student than the public schools.  Either way, it's a rough outlay in this economy...

I was golfing with a friend of mine a couple weeks ago.  We were playing in an outing at a beautiful country club named Royal Fox in St. Charles Illinois... The course is fairly new, and like many newer golf courses is built in the middle of a large subdivision.  The subdivision around the Royal Fox is one of beautiful homes...                                                                   -a typical home along Royal Fox Country Club While we were golfing, one of our playing partners noticed a home for sale along the golf course and grabbed a listing sheet.  Asking price?  $1,300,000. It didn't really surprise me.  The house was big and beautiful, on a wooded lot, and it backed to a nice golf course.  But it did get me thinking... When I returned home that night, I did a little resea...

The glory of the disconnections in Campton Hills continues.... here's the article from the daily herald with my comments. www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=313433 Campton Hills officials said Wednesday they won't appeal the disconnection of seven properties neighboring the village president's house.  (I wouldn't want to live next to her, much less be incorporated within her town).  Kane County Judge Michael J. Colwell ruled late last week to allow six homes and one undeveloped parcel in the Homeward Glen subdivision, where Village President Patsy Smith lives, to detach from the village. Attorney Timothy Elliott, who represented the property owners, said the disconnected area is 34 acres and includes 28 residents whose land will be returned to unincorporated Kane County. Elliott said his cli...

In keeping with my theme of localism, I like to highlight those who are tops in their field.  That means that these establishments are really head and shoulders above the others.  When I got into this business, I was able to hook up with a realtor who was about 1 lap ahead of me in her learning.  It was Joyce Courtney, of Re/Max at that time.  I met her when she was a buyer's agent for a realtor who worked for Re/Max.  We did a deal together and it quickly became obvious that we HAD TO work together.  It really wasn't an option.  We were both: Driven for being the best in the industry; Driven by a quest for knowlege; committed to serving our clients better than anyone; Driven to learn how to add value to our clients in ways that our competition coudn't, and; Had the ability to demand th...

Best of the Best.....Avenue Two Barber Shop in Saint Charles, Illinois has been around for over 30 years in Saint Charles.  I moved here in 5th Grade and have had my hair cut there since.  In 7 of the last 12 years, Avenue Two Barber Shop has been voted the best barber shop, not only in Saint Charles, but also in all of Kane County.  That says a lot. What do I like about the barber shop?  The prior owners hired graduates from Mooseheart Illinois.  Mooseheart is an organization sponsored by the loyal order of the Moose that invest in the lives of orphaned and children without adequate parents and prep them for college and life and teach them a trade to boot.  One of those trades???????  Barbering!!!!  Check out www.mooseheart.org. Those guys who were as young as I was when I was getting ...

As most people are aware, the village is falling apart.  The village has a $10,000,000 suit against it.  It has a suit from the chosen head of the "Village."  There are budget issues.  Calls for reduction of the police force, an increase in admin employees, vast differences from those in power show the incredible increase in discontent in Campton Hills. But now comes some just stunning news.  Judge Colwell again ruled in favor of the people and allowed those who never wanted to be in this village to depart and leave even though they are neighbors of the grand pooba.  Congratulations to Peter Vasilakos and all of the petitioners who got their freedom.  It becomes very costly for those who remain. As reported in the Kane County Chronicle....www.kcchronicle.com/articles/2009/08/07/62305401...

The homeowners of Homeward Glen, Ms. Smith's neighbors, have reason to celebrate.  They have been granted disconnection from the Village of Campton Hills and big government.  What breaking news this is!!!!! Golden Oaks, the small area off Town Hall Road,  has also been granted disconnection with the stipulation that the date of disconnection is 1 January, 2010.  Lucky dogs.  Not sure what determined that date but assume it is either revenue or blocking others from disconnection (Fox Creek, Bridle Creek) who will have an outside border once Golden Oaks is disconnected.  Stay tuned.....more good stuff to come we're all hoping.  Check out the article in the Beacon....http://www.kcchronicle.com/articles/2009/08/07/62305401/index.xml

The drama continues in Campton.  As written by Dan Campana of the Beacon news.  www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/news/talk/1697602,2_1_AU03_KANETALK_S1-090803.article The directors of Campton are trying to vy for Patti Blagojevich's role on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here."    Here's more evidence that the citizens of Campton are in such a tough quandry with the leadership, er "payrollees" who are paid for by the taxpayers of Campton Hills.   Cue the teen-pop soundtrack. Announcer: "On the next episode of 'The Hills': A report on the treasurer comes out at a public meeting, leading the board to oust her. Is it about her performance? Is it about her financial forecast for the young village? No one knows, because village officials won't give up the report. Later, a board member...

OK kids, tomorrow is D-Day.  We already have a lot of people signed up for this webinar with myself and Tom Ward.  Tom and I will be speaking on the $8,000 tax credit.  There are so many people sitting on the fence right now.  Our duty tomorrow will be to educate them.  Let's get them off of the fence.  Some will end up not buying, but others will know without a doubt, that the time to buy couldn't be better.  If you have a fence sitter, get them registered now. If you're a consumer, and are a fence sitter.  Get on this call.  THis will move you off the fence to either stay and do nothing, or get your ducks in a row to go get in the game right now.I've been presenting quite a bit about the $8,000 tax credit.  This is so huge for homebuyers.  There are so many questions that homebuyers h...

More stuff happening to negatively impact the taxpayers of Campton Hills. I just heard that the village now wants to hire more support staff and cut funding of the police department.  Now, from the article below, an ex employee of Patsy Smith says....hey, pay me my money.  I'm not sure why we have these issues?  Could this all been rectified when Patsy terminated the employee.  Evidently not.  Too bad....now the taxpayers are once again exposed b/c the leadership didn't do all they could to protect them.  Last week a $10,000,000 suit came against campton because of accusations of poor judgment wtih the Police Department.  How much government can the citizens afford?  This could be getting real expensive very quickly...... Attorneys for Campton Hills will attempt to negotiate a settlemen...
