It's been a long weekend... a nice break from our busy lives, and very easy to forget what made this holiday possible. Many small towns across the nation celebrate by having memorials punctuated by parades honoring our service members who perished protecting our freedom. Today, we honor and remember them and their ultimate sacrifice. God Bless them, and to those who served and still serving, THANK YOU.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! These have been my favorite sayings and proverbs, not knowing (way back when,) they were Irish in origin: Proverbs: - Necessity is the mother of invention. - Praise the young and they will blossom. - Who gossips with you will gossip of you. Old Irish Sayings: - What's good for the goose is good for the gander. - If you lie down with dogs, you'll rise with fleas. - Man is incomplete until he marries. After that, he is finished. (LOL) This is not necessarily a favorite, but funny. Asked what was his favorite Irish food: “My number one choice is Guinness. My number two choice would be Guinness. My number three choice would have to be Guinness.” - Peter O'Toole Ronald Reagan was fond of quoting this Irish blessing--it's quite heart warming: May the road rise to meet ...

Please Do Not Sit On the Pumpkin Patch in Belleville, Illinois It's been a beautiful Sunday here in O'Fallon, Illinois--in the 80s, perfect for driving around looking for the great pumpkin patch. We decided to see what Eckert's Orchards has for families since this is the time of year for hay rides for all ages, picking the perfect pumpkins--mostly for moms, but for kids, too, and topping it off with a cup of frozen custard, or a meal at the family restaurant. We got there and the parking lots were full, people everywhere, and a cheerful atmosphere... it was overwhelming, and fun at the same time. Took my trusty iPhone and another digital camera out and just started shooting. The sign says: Pictures are OK. But please do not sit on the pumpkins. It seemed like there were pumpkins, gourds...

I always enjoy Adrian Rogers from Love Worth Finding Ministries, and miss getting new material from him of course as he passed away to be with the Lord in November 2005. I hope you enjoy his wonderful illustration of not making any provissions to be tempted, as this young boy had done! "Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." (1 Peter 1:13-16) I added the verse above to this devotional as it fits in well with the subject! Make No Provision For "The Flesh"BIBLE MEDITATION: “But put y...

Luke 10:19 The Message (MSG)  18-20Jesus said, "I know. I saw Satan fall, a bolt of lightning out of the sky. See what I've given you? Safe passage as you walk on snakes and scorpions, and protection from every assault of the Enemy. No one can put a hand on you. All the same, the great triumph is not in your authority over evil, but in God's authority over you and presence with you. Not what you do for God but what God does for you—that's the agenda for rejoicing." Are you fighting a battle today over temptation or just cursing at your bad day? Maybe you are feeling down on your luck and defeated at every turn! Re-read Luke 10:19 as quoted from The Message. (I just love this version of the Bible) Jesus gives us authority over the force of the enemy. We do not defeat the devil with stre...

HOW HOT IS IT?   It's so hot that I saw two trees fighting over a dog. : )It's so hot, today I saw a chicken lay a fried egg.   I saw a dog chasing a cat and they were both walkin'..   It's so hot that I have found out (the hard way) that my seat belt buckle could be used as a branding iron. It's so hot that it makes me want to take off my skin and sit in my bonesIt was so hot in Palm Springs the Betty Ford Center said, "Screw it, open the bar. Drinks for everybody” It was so hot today Floyd Landis tested positive for Snapple. It was so hot my cab driver was wearing an oscillating turban. A Pleasant Day in O'Fallon, Illinois It's hard to believe that here we are, almost mid-June, and the weather is perfectly pleasant today. We've had searing heat in the high 90s and high humidity for the last two weeks. The kind of temperature that saps your energy when you're outside and makes you feel like you're in a sauna. It's typical here in O'Fallon, Illinois but one can't get used to it. When you're showing homes in high heat and humidity, it makes you want to go through the home fast without going outside to check the backyard. (Tip for new Realtors®: when your listed home is being shown, turn down the air conditioning a few hours prior. In the spring and fall, open windows to air out the stale smell.) But today is wondrous. Perfect 76°, low humidity, a little cloudy, nice cool ...

I have never been on a riding lawn mower, much less ridden one while mowing, but I heard that it makes mowing much easier.  I am not a beer drinker, but I heard that it tastes great, and less filling, especially on a hot day. I imagine after mowing the lawn in the O'Fallon, Illinois summer heat, like today's weather of 94° a cold beer has to be very refreshing. Now we all know that if you shake a can of soda, or beer for that matter, funny things happen. I heard that if you are mowing on a riding lawn mower and put your beer in the cup holder, the beer gets shaken up and when you drink it, it tastes flat in no time at all, with all the shaking and engine vibration. Oh no! If you ask me about beer and riding lawnmowers, I don't have any firsthand experience. But if you are interested in...

Memorial Day Sunday Dinner It was 89 degrees outside, but the sun has gone down.  We just had our Memorial Day Sunday dinner here at home, with my daughter and her husband... barbecued steak, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and fruit salad.  Not a feast, but it was close to it.  It's the only time when hubby will fix something resembling cooking... and it has to be on either Memorial Day weekend, or Veterans Day, or July 4th holiday.  But before you get the wrong idea, he barbecued the steak only, he didn't fix anything else! I have a very simple and quick fix fruit salad recipe that you might want to try for tomorrow: 2 cans (15 oz) of Chunky Fruit Cocktail, drained 8 oz Cream Cheese with Pineapple, or if you don't have it use 1/2 a tub (4 oz) of Whipped Cream 1/2 jar (6 oz) of Coconu...

Reflection On Memorial Day I'd be remiss if I didn't post at least once about Memorial Day.  It's more to me than just a three day weekend, because my husband was a career officer in the Air Force, his brother served for four years when he was fresh from high school many years ago, my other ex-brother-in-law was a career NCO, and my recently deceased father-in-law was a fighter pilot in World War II. With a family like mine, one can't help but be proud that these men served in the military, along with countless others, to make this country a beacon for democracy.  But don't expect them to brag about what they did, because to most of them they were just doing their jobs. I would like to recognize Pop, my husband's dad, for the coming Memorial Day.  From what I've read about "the Greatest...
