Glenview is a nice suburb about 18 miles north of downtown Chicago. It's population is about 45,000 as of 2010. The average income in Glenview is about $90,000. It is a nice quiet community and a great place to raise a family. Glenview was known for many years as the home of Glenview Navel Air Station. It closed in 1995.  Then the area of the Navel Air Station was changed to a residential area and named the Glen. This is about 15% of Glenview. There are many great stores and restaurants, movies theaters and many things to do in the Glen. A really nice feature is the Kohl Children Museum which is a fun place to take a child. UPDATED 2022 Village Treasure House  Glenview, IL Who would have thought that a small brick building down a narrow street in a commercial district would house a . . . Treasure House? I never knew this place existed, never heard of it, never knew anybody else that knew about it. But then my mother-in-law, an interior designer, told me about it.I couldn't find it the first time. Up and down the street, straining to see the numbers on the buildings. I fully believed I was in the wrong part of town. But yes, there it was, an unprepossessing storefront surrounded by other squat commercial buildings.Don't judge a book by its cover, right? I was so glad I didn't! This little diamond in the rough is two rooms filled with consignment items that automatically drop in price about every two weeks....

"Nobody ever does anything about that."   These words came from one of my favorite agents.   He's a friendly guy, hard worker, aggressive negotiator.  Very smart.  The kind of agent I'd choose if I were in the market. At a recent inspection, my client asked me what the seller was going to "have to" fix before the deal could close.  "That's up to you," I replied.  As you know, I can't really get involved in the deal.  I'm not there to be a negotiator.  As an inspector, my role is to do the inspection, to be thorough and clear, and hopefully, concise.   Figuring out what you're going to live with and what you're going to ask for is where your agent and attorney jump in. One of the things that I look for in a home inspection is the presence of loose window blind cords.  The cords present a serious life safety hazard to small children.  It has been estimated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) that a small child dies from strangulation in a window blind cord every two weeks. Millions of window blinds have been recalled by the CPSC.  Despite this, there are still millions of hazardous window blinds and roman shades that are still in use. The strangulation deaths often occur where parents think their children are safe:  in their crib or playroom.  When entrapped, the children cannot call out for help. When I see a "strangle cord," I call it out.  The blinds or shades should be replaced with cordless window coverings.  If this isn't an option, ...
