The community I live in, Evanston, IL, has produced a Covid-19 video of how our city has come together. Evanston is the first community north of Chicago along the lakefront.  City of trees, city of churches, Northwestern University and lots and lots of currently locked down people.  But that doesn't stop us.It's a very professional video, and I thought I'd post it here for your perusal. Governor Pritzker has stated that Real Estate Services in Illinois are considered essential services, and therefore exempt from the stay at home order.We Realtors are not surprised.  We know how essential our services are to our buyers and sellers.  We still need to practice safety and care with our showings.  But it's nice to see our industry recognized.

Allright.  I know it's not sexy, but every now and then I feel its necessary to post some local real estate statistics for my local readers.  These are the statistics for Evanston single-family homes, and attached homes (which would include condos and/or townhomes).

There's not much more annoying than returning to your car, than finding a "love note" from the city affixed to your windshield.  You know the one... "We'd LOVE to have some money from you!".But it does become just a touch more annoying when you've already put a bunch of quarters into the meter, prior to that ticket, and then missing the cut-off by a few minutes, only to find that ticket.It seems to me that the city should take into account your initial investment in legal parking and deduct it from the amount of the ticket.  Right?  Right?!Amirite?

Here in Evanston, Illinois, we're fortunate to have one of the best 4th of July celebrations in the country.  That's right, in the entire country.  We have the 2nd largest 4th of July parade in the state (second only to the City of Chicago's 4th of July parade)... with over 140 entrants, (many of them homegrown and local).Our all day celebration begins at 9:00 am at eight different playground sites throughout the city providing games and activities for all ages, followed by a Fun Run along Central Street at 12:45 pm. The parade down Central St. kicks off at 2:00 pm. I'm not a statistics guy, but every now and then it's nice to take a glance at a few numbers that represent how your marketplace is doing.Here are the numbers for my marketplace last month showing some great activity.  The seat of my pants was aware that August rocked, but it's nice to see some data that back that up.My office is located in Evanston, IL and that's where I do a major percentage of my business.  Evanston is the very first suburb north of Chicago, along Lake Michigan.  We are loaded with culture, theatres, restaurants, schools (including Northwestern University), museums, art galleries, transportation (2 trains that take you into and away from the big city).  In short... it has a little bit of everything.And here's my occassional obligatory plea:  If you're looking to buy ...

Today, for a least a few minutes, all over the country... eyes turned upward toward the sky.The smart ones used glasses like those shown to the left. And the others ... well... you know how that worked out.There was a last-minute rush to find those glasses.  People all over Facebook, and other digital sites, offering ridiculous money for those protective lenses.  I seriously considered selling mine, as I could have financed a run for president... but decided against it.Many in our office shared this moment in time, scanning  the sky.  It took some of us a few minutes to locate the eclipse hiding behind the cloud cover.When the eclipse finally peeked out of the clouds, it was small and hard to see, but we did manage to get a few peeks, and somehow I was able to get a couple of decent iph...
