Fresh new look for Paia Maui Hawaii - Dec 2015Just some random photos from the little beach town of Paia, on the north shore of Maui.  There has been a lot of new construction of commercial buildings, and a general sprucing up of some of the older shops. Tropical gardens at Mama's Fish House Restaurant, MauiIf you follow my blog you'll know I post a lot of pictures of the exceptional food at Mama's Fish House, or photos of the views.  There's no denying the food is the star of the show when dining here, but there's more to the whole experience than just that. Really good hamburgers at Hana Ranch Provisions, Paia MauiWe have enjoyed a really good meal at the new restaurant in Paia... Hana Ranch Provisions. They strive to grow their own food for the eatery, and the beef comes from the Hana Ranch which has a long history of cattle ranching. Since we also raise our own grass fed beef, we are hard to please, but honestly their hamburger was praise worthy and I'll go there again.The menu is limited, but so is the menu at my house where we also eat a lot of our own home grown produce and meat.  It's all about what's in season as well as what tastes good. Paia Maui Hawaii market update - lots of inventoryIt's nice to see a lot of new real estate listings in the Paia area as it's usually pretty slim pickings.  Right now there are 22 listings of homes, and 3 condo listings for sale.  Here's what's happening in the residential sector: 22 total listings, 7 are pending and 15 are active pending sales are all priced at $699,000 or less 12 listings are priced at $699,000 or less the next price is $1,395,000 with nothing in between 8 oceanfront listings are priced from $2,995,000 to $10,500,000 the oceanfront listings stay on the market for years... not that motivated? the two most expensive are actually double/adjacent lots with houses on both parcels 4 sales in June/July/August 2015 - 3 "regular" homes and one unlisted fairway home median sale... 08/31/2015

Coming soon to Paia Maui - Hana Ranch ProvisionsJust a sneak peek at what's coming soon to the beach town of Paia, on Maui's north shore.  Formerly DaZoo Restaurant, which was formerly Moana Bakery and Cafe... will soon be Hana Ranch Provisions Store where you can grab a picnic to go or sit down and eat.  They claim to offer produce and other things grown on the ranch in Hana, which would be nice.  We always look forward to a new place to eat in Paia, and will give this one a try too.I snapped these shots while driving by the other day, and look, there's a tattooed lady walking down Baldwin Avenue!  My 93 year old dad always gets a chuckle out of the Paia characters, and he says "In my day, you'd have to pay good money at the sideshow to see that, and now you can see them walking down t... 08/07/2015

Paia Fishmarket has consistently good food, great fresh fish!When it's time to eat lunch or dinner in Paia Maui, the Paia Fishmarket restaurant can be counted on for good fresh fish and other choices. I tend to always get this delicious Ceaser salad with grilled mahi mahi or ono, but often find myself eyeballing other plates as they come out of the kitchen.  I haven't tried all of the dishes, but judging from the happy faces at the family style tables, it's all good!Seating is casual, at the long tables and benches, and sometimes it's hard to get a seat when the place is really busy. So far we have always managed to squeeze in somewhere. Aloha Friday pupus at Mama's Fish House, Kuau MauiI'm making myself very hungry by looking at pictures of food.  Check out these delicious pupus (appetizers) to get you in the mood.  The top one is traditional ahi sashimi, served on a bed of shredded cabbage.  The second pupu is seared Molokai venison drizzled with a citrus minty glaze. A whole lot of construction going on in Paia Maui HawaiiThere's so much going on in Paia these days it's hard to keep up. Here are some pictures taken over the past month or so showing what's up and coming in the commercial sector of this little beach town.A month ago the old Paia Yoga studio was getting a makeover to prepare for the arrival of Mesh Yoga from New York. Yesterday I noticed they are now open!  In between Milagro's and Alice in Hulaland a great big (for Paia) building is going up. Paia Maui HI 96779 - new listings - May 2015The north shore of Maui is very desirable and the inventory is low, with only 18 total listings in Paia/Spreckelsville/Kuau. It's hard to find a decent home to buy at a good price. This week has produced 3 new listings at both ends of the spectrum.  Here's what's new on the market... 648 Pili Loko St. is a 3BD/2.5BA home in the Skill Village subdivision. New York's MeshYoga is coming to Paia Maui There's a new yoga company coming to Maui and they'll be taking up residence in the old Paia Yoga store on the Hana Highway, that classic plantation style yellow building pictured here. (yeah it's a bit grungy but that's the filter, not the building) People on the north shore of Maui love to do yoga and live a healthy lifestyle, so this will be a perfect match.   MeshYoga was founded by Michelle Lou Lan a former dancer. They have a clothing line and this will be their first yoga studio!  Paia is looking forward to such an exciting new business and I hope they do well. I should have had a beer! It was my dad's last day on Maui and we stopped in at Rock & Brews in Paia for a quick lunch on the outside terrace.  He ordered a Pina Colada for a change, and my husband had a beer.  When he was half way done I asked him how he liked his drink.  He said, "I should have had a beer".  Hahaha. Well at least he ordered the baby back ribs so he was quite happy with his meal. On a couple of other occasions he had passed up ordering ribs and got something else, only to be disappointed. So I was glad he finally got his ribs, even if he didn't have the cold beer.   He's gone home to Vancouver now and we're missing him.
