Maui north shore gets first winter swell of 2010 - 30 foot waves It's that time of year again... big wave season in Hawaii. The night of November 1 brought the first big swell of the winter season to Maui's north shore. We could hear the giant waves crashing on shore, all night long. By early morning the hard core tow-in surfers were in place at JAWS with their jet skis and boards. Hookipa Beach Park was closed out to surfers - too dangerous! The air along the north shore was filled with salt spray, almost like a fog! Traffic coming into the little beach town of Paia was crazy, with everyone wanting a look at the giant surf. They weren't dissappointed. I only had time to do a quick drive by of the waves as I had other appointments, but did see some huge rollers hit the shore. ...
