Hokulei Village in Lihue on the island of Kauai has been fully open for a year now.  It's absolutely awesome to have a full-size grocery store in Lihue given the traffic difficulty in driving to Kapaa.  The image below was posted in August 2015 shortly before the Safeway opened.  The difference between then and now is the number of cars parked out front.  There's much more now but this is Kauai where nothing fills to capacity so it's a pleasant trip to go shopping here without waiting in long lines.  Lihue is the place on the island that has everything, Home Depot, Costco, Walmart, K-Mart, Macy's, Lihue Airport, and now Safeway.  "Everything" is relative of course where there is much less on Kauai than in big mainland cities.  Nevertheless, we now have what we need without fighting traf...

The Safeway-anchored Holulei Village shopping center is nearing completion.  A drive-thru in July showed that a few stores are already open, namely Petco, Supercuts, and Jack-in-the-Box.  The Safeway itself looks completed on the outside but is not yet open for business.  This shopping complex is quite large with many more opportunities for other businesses.  Those living nearby are sure to appreciate being able to shop at a full-featured grocery without driving through the maddening traffic in Kapaa.Roads have been improved including this roundabout between the shopping village and Queen Ka'ahumanu School.

I often get asked by prospective buyers what condos on Kauai will allow cats or dogs. I'm working on putting together an island wide list of pet friendly condos but to start I will be making pet friendly lists for each area of the island of Kauai starting with Lihue. Lihue Pet Friendly Condos: 1. Hale Lani Village at Puhi: YES to Dogs, Yes to Cats. Two animals are allowed.  There are no size or breed restrictions.  Animals, cats or dogs, must be on a leash or in a carrier when in common areas. Immediate fine with no warning will be issued for pets that are loose in the common area if the owner does not pick up fecal droppings.  Pets may not be tied and left in the common areas, including the front landings.  Pet rules are strictly enforced in regards to nuisance, noise and sanitation. 2...

The Kauai Property Tax auction was held today, May 16, 2013 at the County building at Rice St. Bidders & Visitors were instructed to sign up prior to the start of the auction. The meeting room was full.   Auction properties posted.                                             Standing room only at the auction. Bidding started with the first property, a lot in the town of Waimea. Incredibly there was only 1 bidder and he got it for the base price. The next property was a different story. It was a lot at 2224 Kuai Road in Poipu approximately across from Brenneckes Beach (but one lot in). There were a lot of bidders standing but they dropped out 1 by 1 until there were 2.
