It's called a "buyers' market" for good reason--it is an opportunity for buyers to select from a large number of Maui homes for sale that could satisfy their needs. Maui # 1 Island Destination in the world   So what is the big fuss with Maui any way?   So what if we have some of the best beaches in the world.  The weather is in the 80's and the skies are clear and the wind is mild.  You might be into whales or how about turtles diving around you as your enjoying your morning dive.  Some people in the northwest are dreaming about owning a Wailea Maui condo and living on Maui would be great option.  It happens to be snowing in Tahoe for 2 weeks straight, you love the snow but enough is enough. Wailea Maui has the most consist weather you could hope for.  Maui  is a great place to take in 18 holes of golf on Wailea's blue course. So you know what the big fuss is all about. It is that Maui is an awesome place to visit or call home. For myself I enjoy b...

Artistry & Beauty of Kula, Maui, Hawaii  I had to drive up to Kula along Haleakala Crater to preview some property today.  It was a lucky thing that I had my camera because it was just a gorgeous day.My first stop was to take pictures of Kula Maui of a project called the Cottages at Kulamanu.  They are located right when you first enter Kula on the ocean side of the Hwy.  There are 40 duplex and single-family condominiums homes.  View all Kula Real Estate Currently For SaleAs I continued up the Hwy I had to pull over to check out Kula Country Farms. I love this place, they raise beautiful flowers and strawberries.  I fell in love with the sunflowers. Maybe because my oldest daughter always enjoyed putting a patch in my own garden when she was a little girl.  I love the display of colors...

I got these pictures one day while up in Kula Maui - two trucks stopped at Morihara Store and I grabbed my camera and took a bunch of pictures.  It was a weekend - that's when a lot of the local pig hunters take their dogs out in the country to "bring home the bacon".  These dogs look tired - it's not easy to run down a large boar like this, and hold it until the boys come with their guns.  Check out the tusks!   Conservation efforts are underway to remove a large part of the pig population in Maui County.  Read what the Nature Conservancy has to say about this. On Maui you can find wild and feral pigs in most of the countryside - and especially up in the forests.  They are BAD NEWS on the ecosystem, with their rooting and foraging which disturbs the ground and native plants.  Don't cr...

Jackson ChameleonsCan you see him... the Jackson?  Sure, it's easy up close, but not so easy unless you know it's there. These cute reptiles have become established on Maui, mostly in the upcountry area between Makawao and Kula.  They like the cooler elevations and reproduce in the trees and bushes of neighborhood gardens.  This one is a male, with the horns on the front of his head.  They have the cutest little hands and feet that grip the branches while their eyes look in two different directions.  Slow moving and careful, they're really hard to see. Here's the Jackson again.  Males can get to be about 12-13 inches long with tail (which is prehensile by the way).  Females are smaller and don't have the horns.  The babies are small - just a couple of inches!  The tonque is incredible......

Maui Homes for Sale - Fixer UppersLooking for a fixer upper?  Something you can work on?  Make it all nice and new?Back in the day when the sugar and pineapple plantations ruled the island, they built "affordable housing" for the workers.  These plantation homes were very basic, no frills.  Single wall construction, canec ceilings, a cesspool.  This home dates back to 1930 so you know there's going to be a lead based paint disclosure coming.  There's something really charming about them though...  the old multi-paned windows, the Douglas fir plank floors, the covered lanais, separate wash house.  The stories they could tell!Currently on Maui, prices for an older fixer upper will start about $375,000 in the upcountry and north shore areas.  Wailuku fixers can be cheaper than this.   Rest...

Snow tops Haleakala Mountain on Maui We got some snow on Maui!  And it stayed more than one day this time.  On average, we get snow on Maui about every 5 years or so.  This time it was quite a lot of snow coverage, much more than the usual dusting.  This great shot is by Kevin Ditamore, taken from upcountry Kula Maui. The Maui News reports that the road to the 10,000 ft summit of Haleakala was closed above the 7,000 foot elevation before dawn Monday due to unsafe driving conditions... high winds and ice.  The road was reopened after 11 a.m. on Monday once it was safe to drive.  The road was closed again today too, so no need trying to go up and make a snowman!  It feels like it might snow again tonight up at the higher elevations. Haleakala National Park is the crown jewel atop the moun...

These beautiful exotic PROTEA flowers are grown in upcountry Maui on the slopes of Haleakala - that's the fertile volcanic mountain that makes up a large part of the island.  The cooler dry climate of Kula makes it ideal for farming of flowers and vegetables, and many productive farms can be found up here.  Protea flowers native to South Africa.  I snapped this picture at the Hui Holiday sale on December 1st.Sunrise Protea Farm specializes in growing and shipping flowers for sale and  have been operating since 1958.  You can order  bouquets, baskets, and wreaths, and have them shipped anywhere.  All flowers are unconditionally guaranteed.  Want to brighten somebody's day?  Don't wait, call them now to get your holiday orders in.  Sunrise Protea Farm ~ Haleakala Hwy ~ Kula, HI. 96790Cust...

As my contribution to BLOG ACTION DAY, I'm choosing to write about something close to home.  My husband  has a lease on some Hawaii State land for grazing purposes, and has a small herd of cattle. He's not going to get rich raising cattle, but it affords us the ability to raise our own organic beef, which is a nice perk.  The animals live a low stress life, grazing and sleeping in their own private paradise.  They aren't fed any antibiotic laced hi-protein grains to make them gain weight.  No poisons are sprayed in the pastures to control weeds.  Their diet of grass makes for some super lean meat.  We always have some beef in the freezer, and the dogs love the bones. We have the meat processed at the DeCoite's plant in Makawao, and they will wrap it too for an extra charge.  Over the y...

Photos from the Polipoli State Park fire-- Maui 2007By Greg Perry, Kirkland Washington RealtorWe've enjoyed and hiked in Maui's Polipoli State Park several times in our island visits.  Located at about the 6700 ft level, Polipoli was amazing.  Huge redwood trees, eucalyptus grooves, native rhododendron plants and expansive stands of pine trees created a surreal forest environment that you would expect on the California coast, not a tropical pacific island. In January 2007, over 2300 acres burned in Polipoli area of Maui.  Polipoli just opened again for the first time since the fire.  Forestry crews have been cleaning the area up for safety. It was hard seeing the damage done by the fire.  We hiked in about a mile.  Here are some photos of the fire damaged area.At 6700 feet, we were in the...
