This month, May, 2008 commemorates the 100 year birthday of the Outrigger Canoe Club a private club at the base of Diamond Head.  The club was founded in 1908 by Alexander Hume Ford and the original location of the club was in Waikiki where the main Outrigger Hotel currently is.  The new or existing club location was completed in the early 1960's and designed by the late Vladimir Ossipoff. The club is a great place for families, social events, dining, entertaining and most importantly beach and water sports.  There is a dedication plaque from 1964 that says: "Let this be a place where man may commune with sun and sand and sea, where good fellowship and aloha prevail, and where the sports of old Hawai'i shall always have a home." It is a place where I like to call home too (I guess like ...

Sept. 25-27 in the Blaisdell Arena will be the site of the 4th Annual Discover Recycling Fair sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu. The pilot program of curbside recycling in Hawaii Kai and Mililani launched last October has been so successful, that the city will expand the program in November to 40,000 more homes, including East Oahu neighborhoods from Kuliouou to Kapahulu and Manoa.   Living on an island, there is no reason NOT to recycle! It keeps our garbage costs down, keeps our communities even more beautiful, and keeps our real estate values high.   To encourage support of recycling, Mayor Mufi Hannemann started the Tour de Trash to lead residents on tours of the waste-processing and recycling facilities on Oahu. Upcoming tours will focus on recycling of yard trimmings, ti...

Aloha Kakou,Greetings everyone and welcome to downtown Honolulu. This beautiful building is located on the Fort Street Mall in Honolulu's financial district. It was commissioned by C.Brewer & Co.   All branches of the military occupy a large portion of Oahu and I recently put together a Hawaii Military Relocation Package - Schofield Barracks & Wheeler Army Air Field for the Military Relocating & Transferring to Honolulu County Hawaii .  Many military personnel have not been to Hawaii before so they obviously do not know what neighborhood is closest to the Honolulu County Military Base they will be stationed. So it is without question they do not know which neighborhood they should look for their next Hawaii Home purchase. The following map I tried to detail just about all of the Military Bases on Oahu in Honolulu County (the island of Oahu IS Honolulu County) This map should prove very beneficial to start your search for your new home purchase in relation to the your next tranf...

Aloha all you pet lovers, Hawaii loves it's pets, especially the furry variety that goes 'woof'! Do to Hawaii's stringent quarantine regulations bringing pets to Hawaii is difficult if you don't do your home work in advance. We have many places to live where our beloved canine companions are welcomed with open arms and even visiting here does'nt mean Fido has to stay at home. However, it is essential that if you plan bringing your pet to Hawaii that you visit the Hawaii.gov website and carefully follow the instructions. http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/ai/aqs/info The benefit of doing this preparation allows you to travel with your dog just about anywhere. Including Great Britain which is equally difficult for pet importation. Peace,

Real Estate Prices Hold in Hawaii Kai A recent article in the Honolulu Advertiser confirms what Realtors here in Hawaii Kai have always known: the desirability of living on this beautiful east shore of Oahu supports real estate values and keeps sales steady. Many Homes are Waterfront Called a "blue chip neighborhood," the article notes that many homes are waterfront which, of course, is the most valuable real estate on the whole island. Other homestyles include luxurious condos, affordable townhomes, hilltop estates with panoramic views - everything from low maintenance to boat docks. The many choices for buyers keeps the supply and demand well balanced.   Median Prices in 2007 According to the Honolulu Board of Realtors, condominiums in the geographic area of Hawaii Kai ranked as the m...

For the 2nd month in a row, demand for lower-priced homes pushed down the median price of a single-family home on Oahu.  The median price from December, 2007 through February, 2008 was $600,000, a 2% decline from a year ago, when it was $612,000.The median price of a condo during the same 3-month period was $328,000, a 4% increase over last year, when it was $315,000.However, sales of single-family homes fell more than 28% and condos fell 21% during the December-February period, compared to last year.Reflecting the mainland real estate market, with a high inventory of depressed properties and short sales, buyers now are looking for a "deal" and know there are plenty of properties to choose from in the lower price ranges.Contact me for full details on the real estate market on Oahu.  I s...

Home of the 15th Air Base Wing Hickam Air Force Base has over 2,800 acres of land and facilities. It is located in Honolulu County and on the island of Oahu and runs alongside the Honolulu International Airport. Both Hickam AFB air field and the Honolulu International Airport run under a joint - use agreement.  During the war years Hickam AFB played a crucial part in pilot training and aircraft assembly as well as the Pacific Hub for transporting the wounded not only during World War II, but during the Korean and Vietnam wars as well. In 1980, Hickam AFB was designated as a National Historic Landmark by the Secretary of the Interior due to the significant historic resources associated with World War II in the Pacific. Other areas of interest around the Airport/Hickam areas: Navy Marine ...

For those who read my Blogging at 35,000 feet post, you know I just went to (and now returned from) Hawaii for a 5 day trip. Three days of being lazy (sort of) and sight seeing a bit, and 2 days of an intense CRS convention (look for an upcoming post on that). Diamond Head State Monument (yep, it’s a mountain, well, actually it’s a crater believed to have been created about 300,000 years ago by a brief eruption) offers a great 30-45 minute hike (or a little longer one way depending on your physical condition and energy level) up about 560 feet to the summit (761 feet above sea level) where you can relish the 360-degree views of the island of Oahu. The trail was built in 1908 as part of the U.S. Army Coastal Artillery Defense System, and was used by mules to haul materials to the peak f...

I had the opportunity to get a tour of Capitol Place yesterday.  I see their motto of "Upscale, Uptown, Unequaled" coming to fruition very soon.  They are anticipating completion in April.  When complete, it will be 39 stories with 12 units on each floor, consisting of a nice mix of 1,2 and 3 bedroom units.  I have some clients that are purchasing a 3 bedroom unit.  The construction is top of the line.  The floor to ceiling windows are double-glazed and insulated.  Sitting on the corners of Bishop & Beretania, you could not even hear the cars outside. Here's an idea of Kitchen:                Soon to be pool area:             Furnished Living Room:                               There is porcelain tile in entry, kitchen, and bathroom floors.  The kitchens come with granite countertops wi...
