Wordless Wednesday - Jade vines flowering again in Haiku Maui HI It's springtime in Haiku Maui and that means the jade flower vines are starting to display their beautiful long flower stalks.  Each strand can be 3-4 feet long or more!  When you see a trellis covered with these exotic flowers you will be amazed!    Even the fallen flowers covering the ground are a beautiful sight.  The individual flowers can be strung into flower leis that will be treasured. These photos were taken with my iPhone yesterday, and you can see much better ones that I posted last year. 5 reasons why it's easy to be GREEN in Haiku Maui Hawaii 1.  No HVAC. With our mild climate there's no need for heating and cooling systems in your home.  If you build with plenty of windows and a good overhang you can enjoy cooling breezes most of the year.  If it gets too cold, just close the windows!  If you properly insulate your roof, you can also eliminate the need for air conditioning. Haiku Maui HI - new fire station will start building next year It's been a long time coming, but it looks like Haiku Maui will have it's very own fire station soon.  Construction is to begin next year on the new facility which will serve a large and scattered community on the north shore of Maui, especially areas beyond Huelo.  Once completed, the Haiku fire station will be home to 5 employees. The new station will be on a 6 acre site mauka of Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetary, at the corner of Hana Highway and East Kuiaha Road.  One of the features will be a heli-pad to aid in emergency rescues from outlaying areas like Keanae and Kailua.  The project seeks LEED certification by incorporating wind energy from two off-site wind turbines, and an ecological wastewater system for recycli... 01/12/2011

Ocean and mountain views from the north shore of Maui - Hoolawa Road We went to a party yesterday afternoon at a new home down Hoolawa Road in Haiku Maui.  They have incredible views of both ocean and Haleakala mountain.  If you ever wondered what an ocean and mountain view is, here you go.  Both pics taken from the same spot on the rooftop deck, but in 2 directions. The rugged north shore of Haiku is less developed than the sunny resort areas, and you can still find large parcels of vacant land to build your Maui home, even some oceanfront lots like these.  The coastline in this area consists of steep cliffs with only a few places to access the ocean.  Over time deep gulches have been formed by rainwater seeking its way to the sea.  Waterfalls and freshwater pools are common in these d... 01/09/2011

How I spent New Year's Eve on Maui - fireworks are now banned We have a new law in Hawaii - making it illegal to possess, sell or import fireworks, except for firecrackers - on Oahu only.  Of course it only applies to ordinary families and not public events.  This is an attempt to reduce fires, smoke and injuries which are all too common when we celebrate July 4th and New Year's Eve the traditional way, with plenty of noise!  Many Hawaii residents come from cultures where fireworks are an expression of celebration and good times.  We love to set off our own incendiary shows!  While a lot of people were not thrilled with the change, it's a matter of saving lives and property. Haiku Maui Hawaii vacant land sales for 2010 - market update   17 vacant land parcels SOLD in Haiku Maui HI in 2010 ranging from $220,000 to $798,000  for a total of $7,088,539. Average sale price $416,972 Median sale price $405,000 Average Days on Market was 182 days.     Lot size varied from .87 acres which sold for $285,000 to 41 acres which sold for only $650,000 being by far the best price per acre.  Keep in mind that Haiku properties can have a lot of unusable land due to terrain and the steep nature of some gulches.   Search all vacant land for sale on Maui now.     Currently there are 37 Haiku lots for sale ranging in size from .4 acres to 130 acres, totalling $35,933,000.  Priced from $200,000 to $3,500,000.  Only 4 are under contract.
