I can remember when I would go into panic mode when business started being slower than normal.  It seems you go full pace all year long especially in the summer months then all of sudden...calls are less frequent, weekends aren't booked with appointments and even worse, no closings! No longer do I let myself go into this panic mode.  I take this time to regroup.  Look at my numbers, write cards to prior clients, listen to motivational videos/books/songs.  Get back on ActiveRain and do a blog! (-; Use this time to do the some of the above or some of your own ideas.  Just learn to "appreciate" the famine times because the feast is right around the corner!          Always Alicia For Real Estate Alicia Gibson, Realtor-ABR McLeRoy Realty Associates Inc. 770-584-1854

It's hard to believe, after the Spring we had, to be complaining about the lack of rain around here! The lawns are so dry they crinkle and the flower gardens need the moisture! Finally, there are rain clouds on the horizon and we are getting some precipitation!  I only hope that we don't get the two and three inches all at once.  It doesn't soak in when that happens- so I would like it to be slow and steady.

At church on Sunday, our pastor asked that all the vets stand up.  Only 3 people out of perhaps 2000 stood.  I was in the choir and knew that couldn't be correct! Suddenly, the pastor recognized the problem and quickly said "Oh, I mean Veterans!" and the three veterinarians took their seats while 20-30 veterans stood to the applause of the congregation.  It was a light-hearted moment during a serious, respectful tribute to the men and women that died to ensure that we could gather that Sunday.  I hope you have a story to tell about how you honored our war dead.

This is a nice part about the warm and humid South.  My wife has a killer flower garden that I am forced to look at every morning with my coffee, usually while pondering what I need to do for the day.  Don't look too closely or you will see the weeds I was supposed to be pulling- lol!

School is winding down and summer is fixing to begin! Along with that comes Awards Day at schools everywhere. This is an event that should not be taken lightly. Merriam-Webster defines an award as this: 1 : to give by judicial decree or after careful consideration 2 : to confer or bestow as being deserved or merited...To ALL that have received awards~~~~~~~CONGRATULATIONS! We are so proud of you for these accomplishments. To ALL the school staff, teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria staff and administrators ~ We AWARD you with a special THANK YOU for all you do! I am also the proud grandmother of our grandson, Tanner aka T2 (his brother is Tristan so I call them T1 & T2) who came home yesterday with #8 Awards! He is 11 years old and currently in the 5th grade. Here is a pic of him along wi...

I just sat through a session at at our local credit union with my son while he applied for, and I co-signed, an auto loan.  It's amazing how similar the process is, whether you are borrowing $10,000 or $1,000,000.  It's all about credit rating and credit score.  It's amazing how many people do not understand that!  I think I impressed that on my son today- at least I hope I did!

It may be the heat OR is may be the expiration of the $8000 tax credit!  Either one will stifle a buyer's interest.  My business has come to a screeching halt since the end of April.  Of course, temps in the 90's for the first time this year probably hasn't helped or that now is prime vacation time, too.  It's just too hot to move.  I know you folks out there in Phoenix will scold me about the heat.  And you know what, 100 deg is hot, I don't care where you are- lol!  So I agree with you!  C'mon cooler weather (in about 6 months).

Twice now, in the past few weeks, I've been approached by clients searching for a home in this area.  Both told me to not bother looking in a certain county because they heard the taxes are too high.  Actually, I told them, the taxes in that county are LOWER, significantly, than the surrounding counties!  I asked them how they got that impression and they replied that it's in the papers about the tax protests in said county! Recently, a citizen's group for lower taxes has been flexing it's populist muscles and creating headlines in the local weekly paper.  From that, many had deduced that taxes are killing the local folks!  This county's taxes are set at 26 mils.  The surrounding counties have 42, 38, 39 mils.  How in the world did that perception arise? I don't know, but I do know that...

This weekend, our local Farmer's Market opens!  I've been waiting all winter for this- fresh vegetables and all manner of stuff (no live animals) are sold at the Market. Our county is getting known more and more for the Organic farming going on here, and we are seeing more lots of out of county license plates parking at the Market, too- even some out of state plates!  Our market started several years ago, when a local woman wanted to have an outlet for locally grown produce and products.  The local bank donated the parking lot on the town square and the rest was history!  I encourage you to visit us on a Saturday morning between 8 and noon to buy some of the best locally grown and organic produce around!

Georgia towns are known for their courthouse squares and beautiful courthouses!  Many coffee table books have been written about the courthouses and how they are holding up as they age.  Many were built in the 1850's and earlier and some are in pretty poor condition, but Pike County's courthouse is still functional.  The county commission is working hard to procure funding for refurbishing.  Hopefully it will happen soon.

The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual. By Vince Lombardi   2009 is just about to end and most of us should be prepared for the upcoming year.  This year has seen new challenges to say the least.  In order to keep up with the coming times, we better have some type of plan.  My broker, has made it "mandatory" for all of us to turn in a 2010 Business Plan.  We meet twice a month and are to turn in our plan this coming Thursday.  I have spent majority of the time today putting it all down and realize that I need to come up with more than words....I better plan on the action as well.  I have seen or heard about REALTORS that I thought would never go out of business doing just that. Which tells me those remaining in the business need to...

One of a kind Art Creations By Artist/Illustrator Robin Goben-Lawver   I stopped by a shop located on the square in Zebulon the other day and was so glad that I did!  I heard it was under new ownership and was completely delighted in all the "goodies" I came across while there!  The name of the shop, Robin's Nook, offers creative art and gifts.  The owner, Robin, does this out of pure enjoyment and it is clear that she truly LOVES what she does.  My "quick stop" turned into about an hour of looking and talking with Robin.  I felt like I had found a pearl inside an oyster shell.  I hope the gifts I purchased will delight them as much as I enjoyed purchasing them. I invite everyone to check out ALL the lovely assortment Robin has to offer at her quaint shop or go online to www.robinsnoo...

After attending our local boards annual 2009 Realtors Celebration this past Friday evening, seeing the awards earned after the tough market we faced in 2008, was very encouraging.  To all the homes viewed, customers and/or clients served, loans put together, schedules rearranged, marketing ideas, educational/training classes attended and everything else that goes with our profession.....congratulations to all our local board winners!               Left To Right: Shirley Tropp-RE/MAX Southern, Angi Pilkenton-McLeRoy Realty & Cindy Woodle-ERA Graham Realty

Posted February 20, 2009. As promised here is some updated information on this upcoming event!  This year's theme will be based on a western theme, "Roundin Up For A Cure".  So folks lets saddle up, pull on the reins on committment and lasso up those donations!  For donations, becoming a member of our team or just general information on this event go to the following: www.RelayForLife.org/PikeGA  This community event is my favorite one to participate in for a couple reasons.  Number #1 is that it benefits such a great cause!  Cancer affects all of us in one way or another.  It affects us by family, friends, co-worker(s), neighbors, clients.....somehow it touches our lives.  Number #2 is our team joins together under one local board, not seperate brokerages, and work toward this one goal...

What makes our county a great place to live?  Even though considered Metro South we still have the small town atmosphere as displayed through our local events.  One of our events is the Pride of Pike 4th of July Celebration.  Friday, July 4th, it begins at 4:00 p.m. with a parade and ends at 11:00 p.m.   Where else can you take your family for only $5.00 (parking fee)?  Vendors from all over come to set up their booths of crafts, different food, drinks and all kinds of "fun" for the kids.  Then the Grand Finale ends the evening as The Chamber of Commerce shoots off one of the best fireworks display around.      Come join us and be a part of the celebration!!!
