Summer is over and school is now in session here in Houston County GA.  I was reminded while headed into the office early today that we need to give ourselves a few extra minutes to get where we're going as kids, school buses, and "new" drivers are all over the roads.  Thanks to the teachers, administrators, bus drivers, traffic cops, and all of our public servants for the work you do!

The Warner Robins GA girls softball team is headed back to the Little League World Series (LLWS) after a convincing 10-2 win over Florida in the Southeast Regional finals last night.  Over 4,000 die hard fans braved the heat and humidity to watch the girls bring home the victory.  They now travel to Oregon where they try to repeat as Little League World Champions.  Last year they beat a scrappy Crawford TX team for the LLWS title. Starting this year, Warner Robins is the new Southeast Region Headquarters of Little League Baseball and Softball.  All the girls games were played at the newly built Southeast Park complex.  The boys started the winning tradition by beating Japan in 2007 to claim the boys LLWS title.  Warner Robins is the only Little League to have won both a baseball and a s...

Many states are gearing up for their annual Sales Tax Holiday (STH) where certain clothing, school supplies, books, and computers are tax free making back-to-school shopping a little less painful on the pocketbook.  Unfortunately, Georgia isn't one of those states.  The Georgia Legislature did not pass the 2010 bills containing the STH so Georgia shoppers will not get a tax break this year.    In the event Georgia brings back the STH in the future, here's the standard list of sales tax exemptions. Clothing - $100 or less per article gets exemption.   Baby Clothes Bandannas Bathing Suits Belts and Belt Buckles Blouses Boots Caps and Hats Cleat-ed and Spiked Footwear Coats Coveralls Diapers (cloth and disposable, adult and baby) Dresses Formal Clothing Gloves and Mittens Graduation Caps a...

Homebuyers in Middle GA who are seeking to purchase a foreclosed property, often have a difficult time obtaining financing.  Due to excessive repairs needed, many of these dilapidated homes will not meet the lending requirements established for government backed loans.     Therefore, if a buyer wants to purchase a bank-owned home and renovate it, they are faced with the costs and headaches of utilizing several different loans.  Often these loans, especially construction loans, have higher fees and interest rates and likely will have a balloon payment due shortly after renovations are complete.     According to the Dept of Housing and Urban Development....    When a homebuyer wants to purchase a house in need of repair or modernization, the homebuyer usually has to obtain financing first...

Actually, the last few months have been extremely busy throughout the real estate market in Warner Robins, GA. Although the current stats for home sales in Warner Robins and Houston County look pretty good compared to a year ago, the question is whether or not sales will continue, now that the tax credits have ended. Nationwide House Day will be on April 10th and April 11th. I haven't decided on which home I will have my Open House, but I'll be sure to let everyone know when I do. In the meantime I found this video from Georgia Association of Realtors about the Tax Credit. It's somewhat funny - Poor Bob!

Having Fun at Stone/Snow Mountain - 2 Hrs North of Warner Robins GA Kamron and I went for snow day Stone Mountain last week and it was quite the adventure from start to finish. The 2 hour car ride up was somewhat uneventful with only a couple small fights between Mickey, Minney, and Kamron. We had to separate Minnie and Mickey, and let Mickey ride up front with me. Once we arrived at Snow Mountain we played in the snow area until our sledding time started. We had 2 hours allotted for our downhill tubing. After our 7th or 8th time down the hill we had to call it quits after the person at the top "accidentally" spun me around and gave me a solid kick down the hill backwards. All in all the tubing was great, but I figured we'd better stop before we overdid it and someone got hurt. After th...

Braving the cold temperatures Saturday morning, my children and I ventured out to the Warner Robins Christmas Parade, an annual tradition for me since I was a child.   I can remember the excitement of sitting in the back of the truck huddled together with other city rec department cheerleaders as we chanted and threw out candy along Watson Blvd.  But the years that I wasn't in the parade, I just wanted the endless number of trucks carrying city rec department football players and cheerleaders to pass so that I could see the last float of the parade; Santa Claus!    I would not budge from the spot that I sat until Santa had waved to me as he passed.  Now as a parent, once I spot Santa in the distance I start packing up my children and belongings and head for the car trying to beat the cr...
