This is not intended to be a cheesy "greatest hits" compilation of my writings, but rather, a look back on some of my favorite recent articles. I have selected them both for the message and the visuals. I think that they offer a little slice of life that is both interesting and inspiring. The reason that we love both Seinfeld and the Beatles! It's elemental. A dissertation on the four basic personality types and how it relates to business. To everything there is a season...Fall foliage photos from North Georgia. An essay in photos and prose on the changing of the seasons. Forget what I was thinking earlier this morning, it's time to move on! An anti-political statement. The best advice I ever received from my father, and it applies today as much as ever! Eric Zeier, former University of Georgia and NFL starting quarterback, visited the ERA United Realty office in Newnan Georgia on Wednesday, October 8 2008. He delivered a motivational presentation to the agents and staff attending the regular weekly sales meeting. Mr. Zeier spoke on the challenges of making it to the highest level in football, and demonstrated that the same principles of hard work, dedication and striving for improvement and excellence  required for a successful career in sports,  carried over into any business endeavor Zeier went on to say that the businessperson that does not increase lead generation practices in today's market cannot expect to achieve the same results as in the past. Tougher times demand harder work and increased proactive effort! The message was wel...

The 2008 fall Taste of Newnan was held on Thursday October 2, 2008. The downtown square was alive with food aficionados who were there to sample the fare of Newnan and Coweta County's finest eateries! Hosted by MainStreet Newnan, the fundraising event is designed to let local restaurateurs purvey their culinary creations to a mass mob of sweet and savory sampling citizens. This year's event did not disappoint, with menu items ranging from smoked duck sausage to barbecued ribs to pizza! Add to that every kind of sweet treat imaginable and you have a food fair that is second to none. And there was music, courtesy of live bands on each side of the square. The music kept the crowd rocking as they indulged in the best of Coweta Cuisine! A Taste of Newnan is held every year in both the spring...

We are having an exciting weekend in Newnan Georgia. The county fair is in town, and coincidentally, Friday night was homecoming at Newnan High School. Both are still pretty big events here. On Thursday evening, the square in downtown Newnan was closed and set aside for a huge pep rally, with music and cheerleaders and hundreds of Cougar loyalists. The scene could just as easily have taken place in 1958 as 2008, with the beautiful backdrop of historic downtown Newnan and the agenda of rituals the same as they have been for decades. Meanwhile, just south of town, the County Fair opened at our wonderful fairground complex. Since Coweta County still has plenty of farms, ranches and agricultural areas, the county fair is another event that is very reminiscent of the past. There are 4-H comp...

If you enjoy Americana at it finest, then Newnan Georgia should be on your short list of places to consider for relocation. Newnan is the County Seat of Coweta County, Georgia, and it is known as the "City of Homes." During the civil war, General William Tecumseh Sherman did not pass through Newnan, so many of its antebellum homes survive to this day! Newnan still offers a downtown square that features shopping, restaurants, and lots of antique and crafts marts interspersed between the offices offering every sort of professional services. There is still a county fair each year at the county fairgrounds, and many activities throughout the year. Before you move to the Atlanta area, please be sure to plan a visit to Newnan and Coweta County. The low home prices and excellent amenities make...

To celebrate our progress over the first year of our stewardship we are officially changing our name to Coweta Club at Arbor Springs Plantation. According to new golf course owner Richard Magner, “the new name reflects partly on the Coweta Indians who were a brave branch of the Creek Indians, original inhabitants of this area.” “We are proud to carry the name Coweta forward in their honor,” said Magner. According to Magner, “significant improvements will now label us as a truly different facility. We believe that with the golf course enhancements we are well on our way to bringing Coweta Club to a new level of appreciation by the discriminating golfer. Our dining experience, whether for lunch or our evening fare, is gaining favor with more and more of the local community. As we enter ou...

Here's a great early morning or evening walk in Downtown Newnan. Just park at the old courthouse square, and perhaps grab a cup of java at Espresso Lane Coffee Shop, and you're ready to go! From the Northwest corner of the square, across from the Gridiron Grill, head out on West Washington past the Herschel Building and the First Baptist Church. Turn Right on College Street and walk past the many period Victorian and Antebellum homes. Continue walking North on College Street until you arrive at the Male Academy Museum. If you prefer less walking, you can park here as well. The park covers the block between College Street and Jackson Street to the East. The Park itself is simple, with limited facilities, but it has it's own unique qualities. The gazebo has been the site of many photograp...

Just south of downtown Newnan is the cities' newest park! Having just opened to the public in the Spring of 2008, Greenville Street Par is fast becoming one of Newnan's most popular urban destinations. And no wonder. It's an easy walk from the square, or there is plenty of parking along Greenville Street. The park is designed to accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. The highlight of the park is the open air amphitheatre that doubles as a grassy play surface. There is a small fountain that uses only recycled water in the middle of a large outdoor eating area with plenty of tables and beautiful landscaping. There are quiet walkways that feature both plantings and sculptures, and the park adjoins First Avenue Park to the West if you would like to take a longer jaunt. One of the many rest...

The office is deserted. There is little or no activity. Have I missed something? Is there some impending disaster looming? Have I missed a memo? No, believe it or not, in Coweta County Georgia, the 2008 school term starts on Wednesday, August 6. Hard to believe, isn't it? Summer vacation has changed since I was a student. We used to finish sometime in mid June and usually did not return until after Labor Day, with not many days off in between. Today's modern calendar allows for more flexibility, with long winter and spring breaks. I'm not sure that I prefer the new way of doing things. Summer vacation as a kid was the greatest time in my life. Long lazy days, with nothing to do other than a perform a  few minor chores and go to church on Sundays. It was days of looking for "pop" bottles...

The Male Academy Museum is a hidden treasure in Newnan Georgia. The unusual name stems from the building's origins. The building away used as Newnan's first private school for boys, and was opened in 1883. The building was sold and converted to a residence in 1888. The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society now maintains its permanent exhibits in the structure. These include the Smith Collection of decorative arts and antique furnishings and a vintage classroom. There are also special exhibits which change frequently. A private tour can be arranged, but walk-ins are welcome. Admission is a mere two dollars. The building is adjacent to Temple Avenue Park, a passive neighborhood park with beautiful landscaping and seasonal blooming flowers of all kinds! It's a perfect place for a pleasant strol...

Coweta County Georgia is still dotted with farms and ranches of all sizes. And although the dirt and gravel roads in the outlying areas are slowly giving way to the encroachment of development, there are still pockets of the past preserving the counties agrarian roots. For those of us that are not farmers, it is a pleasant experience to get out and enjoy the simple beauty of the animals grazing, or large field of crops ripening for market, or even vast tracts of timber slowly maturing over the years. It's hard to believe that less than a ten minute drive from the hustle and bustle of downtown Newnan, that one can escape to the pastoral elegance of rural America. It's a living testimonial to our heritage, and it serves as a straightforward reminder that there is hidden treasure to be dis...
