Lexington Ga is a quiet little town about 20 minutes outside of Athens along U.S. Highway 78. Incorporated in 1806, Lexington is the county seat of Oglethorpe County, GA and was named after the town in Massachussetts where "the shots heard 'round the world" were fired. The courthouse is the oldest of the 15 remaining Romanesque Revival architecture courthouses in the state and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the courthouse grounds the Oglethorpe County Civil War Veteran's and the Oglethorpe County Veteran's Memorials are located. The town still has many of the old buildings along the highway.
