On Tuesday night, Cobb County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the final design for the new multi-use bridge. The bridge will connect Cobb Galleria with the new Atlanta Braves SunTrust Park. The bridge will span I-285 and allow pedestrian and shuttle access to the new home of the Atlanta Braves.The bridge is estimated to cost about $10 million with majority of the funding coming from a $5 million contribution from the Cumberland Community Improvement District (CCID) and $4.5 million in federal grants. The bridge will connect the Cobb Galleria with the new SunTrust Park.This will allow safer pedestrian access to the new facility and alleviate some traffic concerns with the new project. The Atlanta Braves certainly dropped a bombshell this week announcing plans to move to Cobb County with the development of a new stadium planned to be completed in time for the 2017 baseball season. The new location will be between Cobb Parkway and I-75 and Windy Ridge Parkway and Circle 75 in the Smyrna Vinings area. The Braves management indicated that “the new location will give us the opportunity to develop the surrounding area of the new ballpark, transforming it into a mixed use, 365-day destination and creating an enhanced atmosphere for our fans during Braves games. The common saying is stop and smell the roses. Daylilies don't really smell, but you can definitely stop and admire their beauty. The Greater Atlanta and Cobb County Day-Lily Societies will host the Ninth Annual Day-Lily Show and Plant Sale on Saturday, June 8th. More than 500 blooms of several hundred different cultivars will be on display for morning judging and afternoon viewing by the public. At the same time, bare-root day-lilies will be on sale at bargain prices, a great way to add these hardy plants to a garden. A design competition using day-lilies is always a must-see. The Cobb County Department of Transportation, along with the Cumberland Community Improvement District (CID) is hosting a public meeting from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce located at 240 Interstate North Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339. The purpose of this meeting is to present the results of the design charrettes conducted as part of the Cumberland Transit Oriented Development (TOD) study, which is currently underway. The Family Festival is the Official Race Expo for the U.S. 10K Classic and is free to the public. The Family Festival is located at the Galleria Gardens on Saturday, September 4 (10 a.m. until 6 p.m.) and Sunday, September 5 (noon until 5:00 p.m.). The Family Festival is the last chance for registered runners to pick up their race packets and timing chips. Registration is also available for those who want to sign-up (there is no race-day registration or packet pick-up). Race staff will be on-hand to assist with Customer Service solutions.
