My earlier post in this area showed Big Canoe as a place for family fun. Today we have a great family on site and I hope you enjoy the pictures Mom and her 4 ! kids are out for a romp near a new home construction site. Maybe they think it is a "jungle gym" Here we have junior stopping for a moment to look around. Now every parent looking at the photo above knows that look on the Mother Bears face. It is an expression that says , "Where do these kids get all their energy from !!!" Mama Bears do have advantage over us. When they get tired they can give a warning cry which sends the kids scampering up a tree. I think mom used this time to catch her breath. To see a bear with 4 cubs is rare and many of us in Big Canoe have never seen this. It is a testament to the health of the forest.  Thi...

The third event in the Big Canoe Terraces concert series was another great success. The featured group for this concert was the Live Bait Band. They are a Jimmy Buffet tribute band. They played Buffet, Reggae, and a great selection of oldies. The band was dressed for the beach. They had the crowd doing the shark as you can see in the photo here. The Terraces is a great out door amphitheater. You can see by this photo that we had a full house. The concert continued after dark and folks were on the floor dancing by the middle of the show. Want peace and quiet and mountain beauty? Big Canoe is a great place to be in our North Georgia Mountains. Want amenities and events to be a part of? Big Canoe has that too!! We may all have gardens. But natures garden in Big Canoe is something to behold.  At this time of year we are in Mountain Laurel season. These wonderful evergreen plants provide year round beauty and interest. This beauty is one of many Mountain Laurels in my front yard. How do you care for them? I have no idea. They grow and treat us every year to wonderful displays of flowers. I am afraid to feed them, or even water them as they seem to be doing just fine thank you. These are the flowers close up . They are really quite pretty I think. We use the dead branches to make fences and rustic furniture. But that is the subject for another blog. Want to learn more about the North Georgia Mountains? Big Canoe in the North Georgia Mountains is a wonderful place for family and fun. With Hiking trails and tons of stuff to do it is a great place for year round living as well as a place for a summer home. Above we have a family outing on Lake Petit. This family seems to be enjoying the water and the grassy areas around the lake. Or it could be that mom and the kids want to spend a quiet afternoon on the porch. After all on a sunny day it is a great place to be.   You could also be a couple looking for a great place for a romantic get a way. Big Canoe is a wonderful Mountain destination for that too!!   But no matter how strange or what species your family and friends are Big Canoe is a great place to visit. Once you have been here you will never want to leave. To learn more about Big Ca...

There are many signs of Spring here in Big Canoe.  I have posted a couple of blogs with Turkey pictures. However there are signs of spring all around . You have to look carefully for them. Is this a scene from the movie District 9. Or maybe a sight from area 51 in Roswell ?  No this beautiful Luna Moth was sunning himself on our Garden fence yesterday. He could not have hatched out of his cocoon much earlier. This is a pretty sign of spring here in the Mountains is one of natures smaller beautiful sights. For all of you who attended the RE TECH South show I do not have to tell you how great it all was. As usual I have learned a lot about how to do business in this world of evolving Technology. But what it really super duper special for me was before the event I won 2 free tickets !!!! Value was 400 bucks!! Not to be out done I also won an iPAD 2 at the show WOW. I am now trying to make it work. It was a great show for me !! Some where out there is a you tube video of me doing the ipad victory dance. I also enjoyed taking to the ActiveRain folks at the show. Linda Carrig and Jim Head from our company were also there. for those of you thinking about working with a company consider our commitment to the technology of today

It must be Spring. How do I know? The picture above tells the tale. This is the second time I have been treated to this wild life scene in Big Canoe. This time I think the Tom is a little confused as the other Turkey in the picture is a Tom as well. People ask why you see them near roads. The reason is simple they like to scratch their feathers on the road . Apparently the noise is like Frank Sinatra singing to the Hens. The community of Big Canoe is a great place to sit back relax and enjoy life in. Click here for more information on the great community of Big Canoe

The community of Big Canoe seems to be getting ready for spring. To learn more about our North Georgia Mountains and Big Canoe visit us at www.allmountainrealty.com. There are some things you should know about Big Canoe other than the pretty pictures. The community has a capital reserve fund and a debt retirement fund built into the Association fees. The current board is not ranging and fees for 2011. The community is financially very well off. When looking at communities this is very important. Consider what is going on at Reynolds Plantation if you need evidence of how easy it is to get in over your head. So if you are looking for a great Mountain Community consider Big Canoe. Not only is it beautiful , but is is also a great place to live and financially in the black.

A folk radio hero Ludlow Porch passed away last week. His real name is Bobby Hanson. There will be a service for him in the Big Canoe Chapel on the 19th. For those of you who do not know who this nationally syndicated radio show host was here goes. Basically he had a show and callers  rang in from all over the country. He talked folk and talked about people who live in the country. The Mountain Real Estate Report we do on Wyyz radio followed Ludlow Porches show every Thursday. I often tuned in to catch the end and listen to him and his caller. He was a simple man who made a lot of sense. He lived here in our North Georgia Mountains in Dawsonville. He was 76. Say a prayer for him and his family.

It is close to Super Bowl Sunday so one might expect a post titled Half Backs to be about the  relative strengths of the running games of the teams playing. But  this is abouta different type of Half Back Given all the snow and miserable weather in the North and Mid West folks thoughts turn to warmer places. Many folks make the move to Florida. Some buy a second home and some move there full time. This post is about the full timers. It gets hotin Florida. The summers can betough and the hurricane season is a worry. What typically happens is a group of folks decide maybe they should not live there. They KNOW they do not want to go back to wher they left. So they start looking in the mountains of North Carolina. They move half way back hence the term Half Backs. So while I love Florida an...

Today is ice day.The sun is coming out and now as the snow melts we deal with ice. This is just part of the cycle. Sally took these pictures today and they are truly lovely Yesterdaysphoto of the same scene above all you saw was white and mist. Today we see sun. The mountains are truly beautiful    This picture is of Oglethorpe Mountain. You can see the ice in the trees. it was taken off our front porch. Oglethorpe is famous as up until 1930 it was the starting point of the Appalachian Trail Looking out the back door this picture is of Sanderlin Mountain. you can see the ice in the trees here as well. Tomorrow may be the day we can finally move about.  These pictures are all from around our home. This is why ,even in this weather we love the beauty of Big Canoe and the North Georgia Mou...

As I am snowed in I am getting caught up on a lot of things and exploring new things. But there is one thing that really frosts me. Ever log into a site that says free.... or into a site that has something you want? The first question I have is, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? It is obvious that I am interested in the product because I clicked through. But I get really peeved when I go through 10 screens and am asked for credit card info and still do not have a price. I am equally peeved when I listen to some bozo tell me his or hers secrets will only be available for a short time. This info is free. I listen to 10 minutes of drivel and in the end find out for $49.00 I can have the package. Guess what . This stuff does not work. If I was going to buy now I am not. I cannot imagine anybody that w...

Is it Minnesota? Are they long lost  pictures of the Russian front? No it is Big Canoe Georgia. We have had our second snow storm in as many weeks. For some of you it may be a, so what?  Let me tell you the mentality here. "Oh look it is snowing ! We have not had snow in so long. Wow it is really pretty. Quick run and get the camera before it all melts."   This is NOT the case now or the case of the first time in 100 years Christmas Day snow event. It is very pretty. There is a lot of stuff I can do as long as the power stays on. Hope to be mobile tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. (Shades of growing up in New York.) As you can see the snow is really pretty. This is day 2 The Mountain in the distance is Sanderlin Mountain which is about 3200 feet up I am 2500 feet up.   Even my covered...

Once again the North Georgia mountains are under the weather gun. Real snow with accumulations is something we do not often see. In fact this Christmas was the first time in 100 years we have seen this type of weather. We are under the gun fr Monday. Here are some tips if we have ice we could loose power . Make sure your gastanks are full if you use propane to heat. Have your fire wood chopped and ready to go. Make sure your battaries are all good. If you have a medical condition consider staying in a hotel near your medical treatment facility.  Remember do not do dumb things. Responders may take a long time to get to you. Stay warm ,stay inside, and take a lot of pictures. Big Canoe Public Safety has posted a memo of things they can and cannot do to help you. It can be found on the com...

What I have been able to do is catch up on tons of paper work.  I am also getting very organized. so I think I will by tomorrow be able to roar into 2011. My new mantra is , : When life hands you house stranding snow, Make a snow man "!!!

So we are snowed in today for sure. On my last post Christmas day, I received a comment from a kate who lives on Deer Run Ridge. Well Kate if you are reading today we live on Deer Run Ridge too!!!! So here is what it looks like at 11 am on Sunday here in Big Canoe. You can see the mountains in the back ground and some of the slope in the fore ground. This is the walk up I had yesterday when I foolishly "braved " the elements. The road in the picture lifts up on the left hand side of the shot. This is Deer Run Ridge. And this is why we are in for the day. It is absolutely beautiful. The highlight of the day yesterday was seeing my down neighbor outside and alone. She happily came up and had Christmas dinner with us. So we had my wife my sister-in-law and Alice our neighbor for a very fes...

It was just a few blogs ago that I said we may have a White Christmas here in Big Canoe. I guess one should be careful for what they wish for; This is at 11 am Christmas day. I went earlier to take out the trash . Got half way down the mountain and realized this was not such a good idea. The car is safe on the side of the road and I got my Christmas exercise walking up about 600 feet on the snow covered switch backs. Well my sister in law is here from England but nobody else will get here. I think I may need to go on line and download 1,001 way to serve left over Turkey. We were going to be five. Our good friends the Brandts HAD 19 coming so boy are they going to have left overs!!! Remember my post from yesterday . I did spend more than 30 seconds, during one of my pauses up the hill, to...

One of the things about living in Big Canoe is our security staff puts out weather updates. As a mountain community it is great to get emails about potentially icy weather coming our way. Big Canoe is a great mountain experience. But in addition to being in the mountains it is a community . Part of what that community does is help folks. The weather updates are just part of the Big Canoe experience. By the way stock up a little because tomorrow mught be a bit slippery
