HELD CAPTIVE BY A PEACOCK!  This is absolutely true! This past weekend I was driving through beautiful Southwest Ranches in West Broward County. I stopped at a garage sale sign outside a home. This is a rural area, where homes are on acreage, with narrow roads and small canals on either side of the street. Therefore I had to park on the swale, careful not to get too close to the canal. There was another car of people who stopped at the same time as me. Together we walked through the gates along the path.There were many Egret birds on the property, and all of the sudden I spotted a peacock with its feathers open! Brrr! OK, it's not Chicago or Boston, but for South Florida, the temperature drop to the mid 30's last night qualifed as an epic weather event! It hasn't been this cold since 2010. Inland communities such as Southwest Ranches, Pembroke Pines & Cooper City, Fl. felt colder than cities directly along the coast, which are warmed by the beach.  While locals took out sweaters & space heaters, and sipped hot chocolate, intrepid tourists walked along the beach and considered the 50s degrees daytime weather as an early spring. Admittedly, compared to pretty much anywhere else, our weather remains balmy since it doesn't include digging out of snow or subzero temps.  The upside to the deep chill is that it reminded many of us transplanted northerners of what led us to Florida in the first place:... 02/20/2015
