This has been a pretty rough week for those of us who crave the warmth and outdoor offerings of the great Florida climate. The short lived cold snap is gone and the sunshine is back. And it is just in time for the City of Rockledge Community Redevelopment Agency and Historic Cocoa Village Association to host the inaugural (guess that means the first!) Rockledge Art & Craft Fair. The group will join the festivities of the very popular Classic Car Cruise-On-In at McLarty Park in downtown Rockledge on February 7-8, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The car show (being held on Saturday only from 4:00 to 8:p.m.)  is really a neat place to view some cars from your childhood or even your grandparent's younger days. The 27th Annual ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Toward Education) roared through Merritt Island, Cocoa, Rockledge, and Melbourne Florida today.  Thousands of people watched over 7500 motorcycles, complete with Santas and helpers.  The Toy Run was led by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Motorcycle Squad, adding additional excitement. This annual event is always great fun for spectators and participants.  The event is also sponsored by the Shriners, and thousands of toys and donations are raised each year!  The weather was wonderful and everyone had a blast!  A special tribute was given to Pearl Harbor veterans, as this years run was dedicated to them.  The grand marshal was Hatcher James, a Pearl Harbor survivor.  Sadly, many people do not know that today was the 67th anniversary of Pea... 12/07/2008

I found this post unfinished in my draft file, wow what a blur the last few weeks have been!  Rather than change it, I am posting it in the spirit that it was written in a couple of weeks ago. Tropical Storm Fay dropped more rain on Brevard County Florida than anywhere else, more than all of the 2004 hurricanes did in Florida all together!  There are many people homeless and suffering as I write this, and there are good stories starting to rise to the top.  Many good neighbor stories and community efforts are seen more and more.  One of them stood out to us the day after the storm finally cleared.  We Witnessed The Good In People in Our Own Front Yard! The City of Rockledge just hosted the final 2008 Cruise-On-In Car Show at McLarty Park on August 2nd.  More than 150 classic and muscle cars were enjoyed by over 1000 people.  These events are getting larger and better each time Rockledge has one.  As always, there is fun for the entire family along with great music and cars. The event was sponsored by the Citizens Advisory Committee, the Rockledge Redevelopment Agency, and the Rockin Rodders Car Club! The Barton Boulevard Streetscape Project is starting to shape up! Participants and spectators braved the "shivering cold" weather at the annual Cocoa-Rockledge Christmas Parade today.  In fact, the temperature dipped down to the upper 80's with a heat index into the 90's.  As usual, the parade was wonderful.  Something just seems to be missing with the hot weather during a Christmas Parade though.  The parade was led by the Rockledge City Council riding aboard "Old Grandma", a restored antique fire engine driven by Retired Fire Chief Richard Nix. Santa came through at the end, wishing for cold weather somewhere along the way.  All of the bands from the locals schools did an awesome job, braving the "shivering cold".It occurred to me later in the day why so many people are moving to places like Rockledge in Brevard County.  My husband, who is the polic... 12/08/2007

I was born and raised in Florida. A Florida native, once thought to be a dying breed! Not really, however when I was growing up there was not as much in-migration as there is today. I am a child of the 70s. Well, really the 50s if you consider the decade I was born! Where the heck is Rockledge, Florida? I moved here about 10 years or so ago. To be honest, I had never heard of Rockledge Florida even though I grew up 125 miles north of here (closer to Jacksonville). Rockledge is located in Brevard County, Florida. Rockledge, Florida is the oldest incorporated municipality in Brevard County, founded on August 7, 1887. With a 2006 population of 25,225 residents as of April 1, 2006 Rockledge is small, quite and peaceful yet close enough to the active nightlife and attractions of Orlando (45 minutes)  and the Atlantic Coast Beaches (10 minutes). I moved to this area a little over 10 years ago and I love it! But, then, what is there to not love? Excellent schools (public and private), nearby community colleges and university campuses, the Indian River Lagoon offers boating and water-sports!
