The Dunlawton Plantation and Sugar Mill is the official name, but known to area residents as "Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens", a 12 acre park owned by Volusia County.There is a historic Oak tree located in the middle of the park, A huge Oak tree known as "The Confederate Oak" estimated to be hundreds of years old. It is said that confederate soldiers often camped under the huge tree, waiting for fresh supplies of salt and sugar from the mills.The Dunlawton Plantation and Sugar Mill was a plantation that was destroyed by the Seminoles at the beginning of the Second Seminole War.
