It is not only the horse farms and horses that I love in Ocala... it's the events and the cowboy culture that tighten my girth. This year's performances at the 2010 Ocala Shrine Rodeo were absolutely terrific. When I noticed these chaps hanging before Friday's festivities began, I couldn't help but wonder who would be slipping into them for a wild bull ride. The second photo answers that question! Original posted on Ocalalicious. Ocala’s North Magnolia Merchants Farmers’ Market had a cage full of baby quail Friday morning, and it was all I could do not to bring a few home. It has been ages since I have heard the sounds of quail outside. Predators have diminished the quail population, and Darius Lewis wants to bring them back to Ocala. The babies were for sale for $5.00 each. Please contact Darius at 352-598-4862 if you want some of your own. I saw the morning news today and I am fond of those little reports where they tell everyone in the US what the real estate market is really all about! Today's news snip it was about those condos in Miami that you can buy for under $50,000. As they put it, its cheaper than a car!  Great for those 1st time buyers who want 700 sqft, $500 a month fees and right on the beach or Bay.  The high point of the story was that those condos were selling for $150,000-$250,000 in 2006. As the reporter noted better pick them up quick because they won't last at this price. The number of condos they quoted available, between Miami and Palm Beach was 68000. In Ocala Florida, where I work and live, you can buy a 3/2/2  about 1400sqft  on a .25 acre lot for $60,000. We share the distinction with Orlando as ... 08/26/2010

Stopped for lunch at Crossroads Country Kitchen in Ocala Saturday after taking more Ocala horse farm photos on one of the rainiest mornings of this summer. Many local horse people frequent Crossroads, and I love all the fun things they have hung all over the walls (see video). I also learned Crossroads Country Kitchen serves breakfast all day until 4:00 p.m. Love that! My choice for lunch was a Bar-B-Que burger (comes with cheese, caramelized onions, and bar-b-q sauce). It was cooked as requested, and ‘oh my’ delicious. There’s something about bar-b-que sauce and caramelized onions on a good hamburger. And there’s definitely something about Crossroads Country Kitchen in Ocala. It is difficult to imagine living on anything but a horse farm in Ocala (but I'm doing it, darn it!), especially considering there are over 200 horse farms in and around Ocala in Marion County, Florida. Nothing says horses and horse farms like Ocala, everywhere you look. The pastures, signs, entries, and horses paint a beautiful landscape.
