What could be better than living in a Condo on the Miami beach? Not a lot really, but one thing that springs to mind is living in an Artecity Governor condo on the beach.            The third time was a charm for the 40,000ish square foot Alton Road Whole Foods Market designed by Chad Oppenheim which was officially approved  by the City of Miami Beach. I had worked with Chad while he was still at the U o M school of architecture. Some of his hi-rise condos are the most recognizable in the city. The Floridian opened her doors in 1925. Situated on the bayfront instead of ocean front seems strange today but back then the public was not that interested in tanning on the beach. These resorts were geared for northerners just looking to escape the cold winters.There was a massive veranda for afternoon tea and a grand ballroom for dancing the nights away.At some point there was a name change. The Floridian became the Biscaya Hotel, named after the great bay in Spain. The Biscaya slowly deteriorated and by the 1980's the owners filed for demolition permits.
