Just listed - 225 Petronia Street. This commercial/residential  property is located two blocks west of Duval Street at the corner of Thomas Street in Key West. I'll bet you have walked or driven by the new Bank Owned listing at 221 Petronia Street in Key West and thought something like "that could really be something if they fixed it up".  Well now is your opportunity to be the one that does the "fixing". This property is all sealed up and cannot be viewed because it has fire damage. If you look at the last two photos above you will see fire damage at the rear on both the first and second floors.   I checked the historic Sanborn Fire Maps and learned that 221 Petronia Street (previously identified as 408 Petronia Street) existed as early as 1889. Just Listed, but not by me, 112 Hutchinson Lane in the Bahama Village area of Key West. As is my new habit, I checked the old Sanborn Fire Maps of Key West to see if I could determine the approximate date this old house was built.  Frequent readers know that our county property records were destroyed in the great fire many years ago. Workers from the WPA during the Depression reconstructed property records and unfortunately gave "construction" dates of when the records were reconstructed.  In the case of 112 Hutchinson Lane I found what I think is the house in the 1892 Sanborn Map.  The problem is the houses are clearly marked in the correct area on the map but the map makes no reference to the then unnamed "lane".  No matter, we can tell by looking at the black and white photo below w... 07/28/2013
