In the south Brevard beach area we have quite a few townhome and condo communities. Some of them offer a wide array of amenities (like pools, tennis courts, exercise facilities, clubhouses and more). Some offer a very limited package that will usually include common area landscaping and maintenance...Burns Village fits with those communities that offer a small package of amenities...along with very low HOA (Home Owner Association) fees ($65 a month). Burns Village has a wonderful Indian Harbour Beach location (just north of Eau Gallie Blvd..half way between the bridge and the beach) near shopping, restaurants, the beach, the river and Gleason Park. I have been coming to Bunky's for quite some time...in fact I have been to all three South Brevard beach incarnations of the place (the first two locations were in Satellite Beach...and the last move just south to Indialantic happened a few years ago). Bunky's is a place that is built for fun...nothing fancy...a huge bar area that seems to rarely have an open seat available and a large dining room with plenty of large TV's to watch big games while you eat and or drink the day away. The food here is quite good...raw bar selections...great wings made to order...burgers, sandwiches,salads and plenty of seafood selections. We have quite a few very nice condo buildings from the Pineda Causeway in Satellite Beach...all the way down to south Melbourne Beach...the Villager Condo in Indialantic is a great example of area beachfront condo living. The apartments in the Villager are between 1200 and 1500 sqft 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. About 3/4 of the apartments have full to partial ocean view. The building was built in 1975 so you will find different levels of upgrade in every condo you see here (some have been fully re-done...while others have never had any upgrades at all). What sets the Villager apart from many of the other buildings along the beach is the great Indialantic location. OK...full disclosure...I lived in South Florida in the early 80's and ventured down to Miami for college. On most afternoons I would stop by one of the many hole in the wall (literally...they would be a hole in the wall with a picnic table or two in front) Cuban restaurants that would serve amazing food, Cuban coffee and flan for dessert...all for ridiculously low prices. Cuban food soon became one of my favorite ethnic foods and remains that way till this day. One of the issues with Cuban food is that for some unknown reason it has not caught on like say Mexican food has. Of course in Miami you can find a restaurant on almost every corner...but as you venture north even in the State of Florida you will have few options. The Coral Palm Condo in Indialantic, FL is not only a beautiful well located beachfront building...it is close to everything from shopping (Walmart, Winn Dixie grocery store, Publix, and much more) to parks (Canova Beach Park and Paradise Beach Park are both close by), restaurants, hotels, live music (Lou's Blues is within walking distance) and much more. Holy Name of Jesus in Indialantic will be hosting their annual Fall Festival this weekend. There will be lots of different kinds of food: barbeque, hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, funnel cake, french fries, snow cones, cotton candy and my favorite, funnel cake. Indialantic, FL is a very interesting community. The first thing you need to know about the area before moving here is that it has two very distinct parts...one...Indialantic by the Sea is really Indialantic proper...that is the City. The other area in really part of the County of Brevard and not part of the City. The folks who live in the City of Indialantic by the Sea will be happy to point out the boundaries to you...lol In the City the place to live near...especially if you have children (keep in mind all the schools that feed Indialantic are "A-rated" so families always put the area on their shopping list) is Orlando Park. The Sanctuary is one of my favorite communities in the South Brevard Beach area. It is located in Indialantic...just south of the Eau Gallie Causeway. The location is ideal for those commuting to the mainland side...while still allowing VERY close proximity to the beaches. The Sanctuary is a gated community that has a nice array of amenities. A clubhouse that includes activities like happy hours and meeting facilities...two tennis courts for residents...and a community pool that is open nightly until 10pm (note: no lifeguards). The third annual Long Doggers Beach Challenge 5K Run/Walk will is quickly approaching. Mark your calendar for Saturday September 17th...at 5pm. Obviously any community that is oceanfront in Florida is almost expected to have decent seafood. Indialantic, FL is no exception...and one of the better seafood restaurants on the Space Coast is Island Fish Grill in Indialantic. Island Fish Grill has a nice menu with quite a few different seafood (mostly Fish) options...they also carry a bunch of nightly specials so make sure your server does a good job of telling you about them. The Onion Crusted Grouper is fantastic!!! This is not a cheap place to eat...and I would suggest you make this a date night or special occasion place. It is fine to bring kids but I can't say that I recommend that...the menu is not very kid friendly. Many small neighborhoods dot the South Brevard Beach area from the Pineda Causeway down to the South Melbourne Beaches. One Such neighborhood is Sea Side in Indialantic, FL. Have you ever dreamed of living in a small enclave of homes with no through traffic...all beautifully maintained homes, all with tile roofs...very affordable...and have it be directly across the street from the beach? Sea Side might just be what your looking for! Before you get too excited let me give you some bad news...Sea Side has only 22 homes in this small section...and they rarely go up for sale. Quite a few good happy hours exist in the Melbourne, FL area...especially in Downtown Melbourne. Many also exist along the Space Coast....but in the South Brevard beach area we have only a few good options. That being said...if you are looking for a place that is a little more sophisticated and has a bit more of an upscale clientele...the place for you may be City Tropics. City Tropics is located in Indialantic, FL...directly on 5th Ave (5th Ave is the main drag in Indialantic). It has two bar areas...one inside and one tiki style area outside. Howard E. Futch Memorial Park...aka...Paradise Beach Park in Indialantic is a public beach park about 1/2 mile south of Eau Gallie...and a couple of miles north of the 5th Ave Causeway...on Hwy A1A. This park is loaded with amenities like a large children's playground area, lots of beach volleyball courts, multiple BBQ areas, Covered party patio areas, showers, bathroom facilities, and more. The beach at Paradise Beach Park is lifeguard protected so it is a great choice for those with children or women who are heading to the beach alone. Anyone who follows my blog and blog posts know that I enjoy an occasional drink on an outdoor covered patio as well as a great burger...in Indialantic, FL I have found both in one place...Ichabod's Bar & Grille! Now burgers are not the only thing Ichabod's serves on it's menu...the nachos are enormous...enough for three or four good eaters, the chicken sandwich is outstanding, and the fish tacos are a good choice. Ichabod's has a large selection for lunch and dinner. The burgers here are real standouts...they are absolutely some of the best in the South Brevard Beach area. ....Sometimes you just want to have a big breakfast and not drive too far to get it. In Indialantic, FL that place is the Blueberry Muffin! The Blueberry Muffin serves breakfast and lunch daily and the reasonably priced menu with large portions and great specials make this the "place to go" on the south Brevard beaches. The blueberry muffins are fine...but try one of the chocolate chip muffins if they are available when you go...they are amazing. ...an FYI for those with kids...my grade school son says they have the best pancakes he has ever had...since that is the only thing he orders whenever we go out for breakfast...it is high praise indeed! My son and I decided to check out the best pizza in the area. He is nine years old...so pizza is his favorite food! I guess it would likely fit in the top ten of most favorite food lists :) First we had some ground rules...no mass produced pizza (Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Little Ceasars, Dominos...we elimanted these because we figured they had zero chance of being the best). Second we felt we should order a slice...or a large pizza only (a medium or a small pizza can tend to have a thicker crust). This weekend we headed to the Fall Festival that was being held at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Indialantic Florida. It was a pretty day, a bit warmer than it's been lately.  Many people had the same idea we did, as there were alot of people there.  It was tough to find a parking place. Wristbands for Sunday were $20 and they allowed you to ride any ride in the park as many times as you wanted.  There was a wide variety of delicious food: barbeque, hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, french fries, corn on the cob, chowder, pizza, gyros, ice cream, snow cones, cotton candy, and my favorite, funnel cake.
