There are many things you can do around Hernando Beach and Weeki Wachee even on a cold day in January. Jenkins Creek and the adjacent Linda Pedersen Park is located off Shoal Line Blvd between Weeki Wachee and Hernando Beach. The area is popular with fishermen and in the summer, people enjoy taking a dip in the swimming hole. After a few days of nice weather in the 70s, temperatures dipped low again and today the high was in the low 50s. The water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico and the canals around Hernando Beach also have cooled off considerable. Today, we went to Jenkins Creek to see if the Manatees had started to gather yet. Neighbors and residents of the Hernando Beach Florida waterfront community gathered last weekend for a holiday lighting ceremony at the Hernando Beach Fire Station. The firefighters had organized this event and invited the community for an evening of fun and fellowship! They had done a great job with the light display decorating the fire station! The time changed last night and we finally got our one hour of time back that we lost when we had to "spring forward" a few months ago! No one could be happier about this than I.  My plans for this "long" weekend involved house cleaning on Saturday and taking a day off today.  Of course, it didn't quite work out that way. Blessing of the Fleet in Hernando Beach Florida 2016 The Hernando Beach Yacht Club opened the boating season with its annual Blessing of the Fleet yesterday.  A land ceremony attended club members, guests and local dignitaries was followed by the blessing of each boat by a local chaplain.     Boaters then proceeded down Marlin Canal in Hernando Beach to the open water of the Gulf of Mexico for a wreath laying ceremony honoring any seafarers who have lost their lives at sea.  The event was open to the public.  The festivities continued after boaters returned with a dinner at the Hernando Beach Yacht Club.  The Blessing of the Fleet is a century old tradition to ensure the safety of seaman and vessels. Hernando Beach Florida 34607 Home Sales December 2015 and January 2016 Waterfront home sales continued to decrease in December 2015 in the Hernando Beach community.  Three Hernando Beach homes sold during December bringing the total of waterfront home sales in 2015 to 96 homes for this area. Two of the homes that sold in December are located in neighborhoods with direct Gulf access.  The third sold home is located in the deed restricted neighborhood of Hernando Beach South.  Sales prices ranged from $94,000 for a cottage-style home to $305,000 for a two-story stilt home. Since the December market update, inventory of homes for sale in this waterfront community has increased by two units.  There were also some price reductions in the existing inventory which is resulting in currently ove... 02/06/2016

Veterans Day Commemoration at VFW in Hernando Beach Florida The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9236 hosted a Veterans Day commemoration this morning.  The festivities began with the posting of the colors by the color guard of Central High School and the singing of the national anthem followed by drill performances by members of the ROTC of Central High School in Hernando County. Among the dignitaries present were two County Commissioners and the Supervisor of Elections. After the ceremony, guests were treated to lunch inside the post.   11/11/2015
