The tent on the lawn of the Fort Myers Beach Art Association was ready for visitors this Saturday march 25 at 8 am. They had dozens of watercolors and a few oils on strings and called the whole presentation a "clothesline Sale'.             The artists come from all over Lee County, with the majority residing on Fort Myers Beach. The quality is surprisingly good, with quite a few are outstanding works among the good. The visitors filled every possible parking spot on the property and many bought Florida scenes from a few dollars for cards to mostly under $100 for an original piece of art.          The Art Association is located just behind the Fire Station at the corner of Donora and Shell Mound.  The interest this little show generation struck me.  The Gallery is opened every da...

Search Fort Myers Beach MLS   History of Fort Myers Beach Prior to incorporation in 1995, Fort Myers Beach was originally known as Estero Island.  Estero Island and its sister island, San Carlos, make up the community of Fort Myers Beach. Fort Myers Beach is a small island, seven miles long and in no place much more than a mile wide. From the northwest point to the southeast tip, a gleaming white sand beach overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. Ponce de Leon may have come to Fort Myers Beach when he explored areas along Southwest Florida's Gulf coast in 1513 & 1521. DeSoto may also have sailed the waters around Fort Myers Beach in 1513.  The Caloosa Indians inhabited many of the Florida west coast islands including Fort Myers Beach and left what is known as shell mounds behind as evidence of th...

MARKET SALES FOR FORT MYERS BEACH SINGLE HOMES JAN 2007 Fort Myers had 10 homes sold and one pending.      Property Type: Residential - single homes  sold in Jan 2007 What is striking is the 140 days average to sell a home.      Active: 0 Pending: 1 Sold: 10 Other: 0 Total: 11    What does all this tell us? most of the sales where done after 120 days. 5 of to them to be exact for 91.82 % of asking price. Also it is quite clear that the most expensive the home the more difference there is between asking and selling price. It stands to reason. average price is $818,100, A bit misleading as it takes only one large property to change the average drastically.   Property type - condos sold in jan 2007    Active: 0 Pending: 9 Sold: 9 Other: 0 Total: 18  average price for sold condos is $553,888,...

In southern Florida, we don't experience cold fronts, but rather cool fronts. As the night gathers dust, the temperatures fall into the low 50's and the air is chilly when I awaken.  I turn the heat on while I shower and dress myself in a pin-striped pantsuit for work.  My husband places a shawl around me before I step out of the door.  When I step again out of a door, my offce door at ten o'clock to indulge in my first cigarette of the day, I find the sun shining brightly and the warmth of the Florida sun has caused the temperatures to rise to nearly 70.  Below is a poem I wrote about our Florida cool fronts: GODDESS OF THE SUNFebruary cool fronts blow inand out of a Florida island,The women wear sweatersOver their bikinisAll except Diana She wears a leather jacketBlack as Santana,Di...

Located some 26 miles of downtown Naples, in Lee County, Fort Myers Beach is a vibrant island of 6,500 residents, which number swell to 30,000 during the winter months. It is 7 miles long by 1 mile at its widest. It is among others, known as one of the "safest beach" in the USA.My wife and I moved here in 1999 and I was struck by its unusual history   The early days of the island is marked with the fascinating stamp of the Calusa Indians or "Shell warriors" or "Shell People" who controlled Fort Myers Beachand other islands and keys in South West Florida, and had an Empire that ran from Cape Coral and Sanibel  to PIne Island and Mound Key, which was considered their capital. It is now of our present Fort Myers Beach and is situated towards Lover's Key on the south end, today a reputed pres...

When we lived in Massachusetts in the 90's we used to take off in the winter to the Florida Keys.Since then we moved to Florida. Even if you don't have a green thumb, it seems that everything grows anyway. This is a street next to were we live now. I used a Canon Power Shot digital 7.0 mega pixel. You may go manual or auto, like most digital cameras, but the quality of the pictures are definitely better in a larger size. I used to really enjoy my old Olympus OMG as you could focus on one part of the screen and then the rest be could be blurry which was interesting. Of course the old Olympus could be auto if you wanted. Sometimes by the time I figured out the speed and opening, the light would change and I would loose a shot. Sometimes one would get lucky. As realtors we try as much as ...

The first time I saw Lover's Key, which is located just south of Fort Myers Beach and is within our community boarder, I thought what a great place to take my wife to in case I acted like a jerk and needed to be forgiven. In fact I was having a bad case of male menopause and was just praying for a break when I stumble on the key. This 712 acre is also called the Carl E Johnson recreation area and is part of Black island, Lovers Key, Inner and Long Key and has a mix of untouched beaches, canals and tidal lagoons which also accepts dogs. So I brought Miss Red, our for ever on a diet but still eats a storm Rhodesian Ridge back.                They have all sorts of wild animals there as marsh rabbits, raccoons ( probably the same family which feasts on my cans at night, spoonbills, woodpeck...

My wife says that men are lucky, that when the turkey is ready, they are called in to do the honors of cutting it up and are then treated to a sumptuous dinner that magically appears.  But, I'm extremely thankful for the dinner and all of the efforts that go into Thanksgiving.  So, not only do I thank my wife, for her love, beauty and culinary abilities, but I also thank the turkey. We are thankful also to reside in this tropical paradise commonly known as Estero Island or Fort Myers Beach, Florida.  We've resided here since 1999, and despite rumors to the contrary, our house is still standing.  Seriously, we have traveled extensively throughout this country and have seen many attractive and vibrant communities, but to reside within the only continental tropical zone in the United States...
