  86 degrees today for a high on Fort Myers Beach, Florida, the weatherman advised on the evening news. No snow in the forecast. No sweater necessary when stepping outside. Our 10th Thanksgiving at our home on Fort Myers Beach, Florida.  No pilgrims on a rock, but there were Indians in the form of the Calusa who settled on our Island about 2500 years ago. In the current economy, people are anxious for change. . . for the job market to improve, for a sense of stability in the economy.  I'm enjoying the "sameness of this Thanksgiving.  The turkey my wife will labor over tomorrow is in the fridge.  I spy signs of other treats in the fridge and in the cabinets.  I know that by the time the turkey is done tomorrow, our Rhodesian Ridgeback, Mimi, will be in a frenzy from smelling it all day.  My contribution to tomorrow's feast will be the cleanup after.  Much appreciated by my wife, I will have to withstand Mimi's resentment at the leftovers being tucked away i... 11/25/2009

Located mid island, this Fort Myers Beach Short sale is a well built classical island home with a true gulf access canal frontage. Hello Folks, Last week was the annual Fort Myers Beach Sandsculpting  Contest.  The contest started about midweek and ended with the final awards ceremony being on Sunday November 8th at 1:00pm. In normal fashion, I just HAD to go down and check out the artwork. Upon arriving I was informed that ‘things had changed" in regards to the contest and public participation / viewing ..... This year the "powers to be" put up a barrier around the sand sculpting area and if you wanted into "the area" you would have to pay a fee. In the past this has always been a FREE event to view. Fortunately the boundaries which allowed for FREE viewing were not very far away and if you had a camera which would ZOOM, then you would have pictures just like you were standing next to the sculpture. ...... provide... 11/10/2009

  The orginal tiki huts started some 1450 BC with the Calusa Indians who at the time controlled most of south west Florida. Their influence in tiki building was brought to our Seminole Indians or “run-away-Indians” who transformed the tiki hut. The Fort Myers Beach 2009 Sand Sculpting Championship is in the books.  It appears crowds this year were slightly less than last year.  Perhaps the windy weather or economy held things down.  Those in attendance were treated to an excellent contest and the following pics show the talent of the 16 Master carvers. The themes ranged from the whimsical to the patriotic.  This eagle was a crowd pleaser. Imagine the time spent carving these geo designs ! Dolphins are always popular and this carving was a hit with the kids ! Castles in the sky or on Fort Myers Beach.  Crowd favorite Amazin' Walter makes it look easy ! The 2009 Fort Myers Beach Sand Sculpting Championships are in high gear with 16 National and World Champions working feverishly to meet the deadline for completion and judging.  Crowds drove, cycled, walked, bused and trollied to the Holiday Inn on Fort Myers Beach to see the carvers up close. Carvers use different things for inspiration and some of the entries reflect an eclectic flair. Would your kids even know what this is ?!?! Some sculpting seem to defy gravity !
