Depending on who you talk to, the opinion on the reverse mortgage changes will range from "horrible" to "the best thing that ever happened to the program." I stand somewhere in the middle. The financial assessment still has me weary about the future of the program, mainly, because it will bar a lot of potential consumers from the program. Not to mention, make the program less attractive for those who have been considering a reverse mortgage in the future. Do I think it's fair? No, but I also have to think about the FHA's position in all this. They are trying to keep the program alive for consumers who qualify, while making it safer as well. Years ago I sold a five bedroom three bath home to a family with children and aging grandparents. HUD Wants to Know What You Think...About the Financial Assessment Change For the first time, since announcing the changes to the Reverse Mortgage Program, which were implemented on September 30, HUD is asking for feedback. Specifically, about the financial assessment changes coming on January 13 of next year. The 30-comment period, which is set to end on October 15, after beginning on September 12, asks all those who are interested on submit their comments electronically, or by mail, to its Regulations Division, Office of General Counsel. However, it encourages all interested parties submit their feedback electronically. Court of Appeals Rules in Favor of Plaintiffs... Against HUD The non-borrowing spouses of reverse mortgage borrowers have finally found a reprieve when a court of appeals rule in favor of the two plaintiffs in a lawsuit against HUD. According to an article in Reverse Mortgage Daily, a court of appeals is holding HUD accountable for providing a remedy for the plaintiffs.  The lawsuit, which was filed more than two years ago, was originally dismissed for lack of standing as the plaintiffs were unable to demonstrate an adequate connection between HUD's repayment guidelines and the emotional distress caused by HUD's action. Alot Of For Sale Signs, But Not Available I'm approached daily with questions about the Coral Springs Florida real estate market in Southeast Florida. Alot of folks want to know what's going on straight from a realtors mouth. I tell them, right now, in Broward County it's a sellers market.
