Sunset Week on my blog continues with something swimming in the Banana River Lagoon, Cape Canaveral. I was too busy taking this photo to notice but it's probably a manatee. Gators are rarely, if ever seen here although mating season sometimes drives them to wander from their natural fresh water habitat. One was actually spotted on Cocoa Beach many years ago. Why is there natural light before sunrise and after sunset? When we observe sunset, the Sun has already gone below the horizon. The Earth's atmosphere "bends" the Sun's rays and delays the sunset by about three minutes. Likewise with sunrise, the sun makes its first appearance before it would on a planet with no atmosphere. Every evening I get some exercise and ride my Mongoose bike beachside. I had my trusty Canon 8mp point and shoot with me this time and thought I would share these photos with my friends on AR. I usually stop at "Jump's" to throw a game of horseshoes on the way back and have a cold brew with friends. It's a great way to unwind. The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour pulled into to Port Canaveral, Florida Thursday and Friday and the big show is on Saturday June 4th, 2011. The tour is a 7 day, 7 city road trip featuring thousands of hot rods and it all starts from Port Canaveral. Drivers come from as far away as Alaska and South Africa to show off their cars and participate in the 1600 mile adventure. This Monster Powered Fishing Boat was parked in Port Canaveral with these dorky bean bag seats by it's side. Maybe they're a new style of comfort fighting seat :-) NOTE: I originally thought these were inflatible seats but upon closer inspection, they look more like bean bag seats.  On the horizon: An Android-powered home Google is ready to roll out Android software that controls everyday household items like the lights and appliances. An estimated 500,000 people descended on Florida's Space Coast to view the perfect final launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor today. After a 2 week delay, Mission STS 134 roared skyward at 8:56:26 AM on 5/16/2011. I didn't want to brave the traffic, so I opened my front door (about 20 miles away) and took this photo with a 300mm lens on my Nikon D90. It isn't perfect but you get the idea :-) All the best to the Astronauts - Come home safe! My Previous Post about the Scrubbed Launch. Endeavor's last launch. The primary payload is the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer and ELC-3. Mission duration: 16 days. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! This Desert Rose in our garden is blooming so nicely, I had to share it with my friends on AR. It was totally bald in January but has made a complete recovery with the warmer weather. The desert rose is an evergreen succulent native to the tropical regions of Africa and Arabia. It thrives in humid climates with plenty of rainfall which pretty much describes Florida summers. I water and feed it and right now it seems pretty happy. The desert rose likes a lot of sunshine and well drained soil. This beautiful plant has a distinct stem that swells to a large size as it stores water. Our Mother's are both gone now but my wife and I want to dedicate these beautiful blooms to their wonderful memory. Life is just better in Cape Canaveral, Florida! Every first Friday of the month, Cape Canaveral hosts "Friday Fest" and I went down to check it out with my Canon point and shoot. There is always lots of music, food and drinks but this time there was also snakes, cincachoos, skunks, bunnies, iguanas and more. Animal Love Inc's motto is "Dedicated to Educate" and they bring their animals to birthday parties, schools, summer camps, boy/girl scout meetings, businesses and more. At first this looks like a venomous coral snake but it's really a Guatamalan Milk Snake. Whew! I'm not sure if this is a python or a boa constrictor. I'm just glad it was behind glass in a terrarium. Administration is getting to be the biggest wing in the Hospital these days. I am recovering from torn connective tissue in my hip and back and went to the usual Doctors and Specialists including a chiropracter. Who knows how much they billed my insurance! The orthopedic doctor looked at my MRI and said, "Yup, you've got torn tissue all right." I asked if he could do anything about the pain and said I should keep taking Celebrex and rest. I was all of 10 minutes in his office. A friend suggested I see an acupunture physician and I thought why not. The pain was constant and nagging and was wearing me out. After two visits to John Lang in Cape Canaveral, I am almost pain free and off the Celebrex. I still take natural remedies like Curamin and Chinese tea pills (Jin Gu Die Shang Wan). It ... 04/16/2011
