A good many people thought that NASA was “closed for business” when the manned Space Shuttle Program was shut down in July of 2011.  The fact was that the shuttle program was over 30 years old, and much of the technology used for the shuttles was quickly becoming obsolete.                                        Thursday marks a come back, if you will, for manned space missions for NASA.  There is a 60% chance (due to local weather) that NASA will launch the unmanned Orion Space Capsule on Thursday morning at 7:05am.  Orion is planning to orbit the Earth twice well above the International Space Station, and then splash down between 4 and 5 hours later in the Pacific Ocean off the California coast.  If you are local on the Space Coast you can watch the launch on your local channels.  For... 12/02/2014

After the last rocket launch was scrubbed several times due to bad weather, there is an 80% chance of an Atlas V rocket launching tonight from Cape Canaveral.  The rocket will be carrying a Global Positioning satellite system and the launch is scheduled for 11:23 p.m., with an 18-minute launch window. As with previous launches, if tonights lauch is scrubbed, then it could be re-scheduled for Saturday. If successful, this will be the 47th launch by an Atlas V since 2002.  The rocket was rolled to the launch pad Thursday morning.  08/01/2014

So my mom is in town, and last night we went down to the beach to watch the launch of a Delta IV rocket.  Well, to make a long story short, the launch was scrubbed, and it was re-scheduled from tonight at 6:59pm.  According to NASA, that is only a 30% chance of favorable weather for the 65 minute launch window.  Well, it is the rainy season in Florida.   The plan is to launch three military satellites on the Delta IV rocket.  Of course if the launch doesn’t occur today, it will can be pushed out to Friday, or even into the weekend. Yes, I know we have been waiting for this for a while, and, it has been delayed several times.  But, this Monday July 14th the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is supposed to launch at 9:21am from Cape Canaveral. This rocket will carry six 2nd generation ORBCOMM OG2 communications satellites that will provide enhancements to existing messaging capabilities for ORBCOMM's customers worldwide. SpaceX canceled the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket that I had blogged about last week. Initially the second launch date was intended to go up on Sunday evening, but, thunderstorms were a factor in yet again canceling that launch.  Then, a third launch was scrubbed to do concerns identified during pre-flight check. At this point, tomorrow, Tuesday is slated as the next available launch date. The rocket and its payload were both in good condition. The extra time will be used to make further preparations for Tuesday's attempt. Tuesdays launch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  The launch window closes at 8:08 p.m. This launch will be available to be seen throughout Brevard County. Okay Cape Canaveral watchers, it was announced that SpaceX and Orbcomm are now planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket at 6:08 pm ET Friday from Cape Canaveral.  Six commercial satellites are also planned for the same launch. Originally the launch was planned for this past Sunday, but that was delayed in order to allow time to test one of the additional 6 satellites.  With weather being fickle on the Space Coast, Saturday has also been tagged as a backup launch date.   06/16/2014

The Sunseed Food Coop is a GREAT natural food option on the Space Coast.  Located in Cape Canaveral at 6615 North Atlantic Drive, I found the Sunseed Food Coop recently while driving south on Atlantic after showing property in the area.  What a find!  As many of you know from my previous blogs, I have been trying to incorporate more organic foods into my diet and the Sunseed Food Coop is a great place to do just that!  I have found things like hemp hearts, organic vegetables, goji berries, brown rice flour and other hard to find items at reasonable prices.  In fact, the Sunseed Food Coop reminds me a lot of the Vitamin Cottage stores that I used to shop at back in Colorado. My daughter Nicole and the Grand kids arrived Friday night from Canada and Grandpa is already worn out!  Below is a collage of older photos, including my niece Katie but there will lots more new ones posted soon. They are at the beach as I write this and I have slow cooked pulled pork in the crock pot. I made blueberry pancakes Sat AM and then it was off to Jumps TinyTavern in Cocoa Beach for horseshoes at 2:00. Me and "Wave Dave" went to the final and smoked some really good teams but Boston and Alvin got us in the end winning two out of three.
