One of the perks of living on the Space Coast is that you get to see and HEAR Shuttle and rocket launches. As I was riding my bike on Saturday, a Delta 1V Heavy Rocket took off carrying a GOES-O weather satellite. I grabbed my camera and had time for a few quick shots before it roared out of sight... And I mean roared! Dogs were barking, parrots were squawking and car alarms went off. It was fun to watch. The Space Program is a vital part of this area and provides jobs for thousands. With the winding down of the Shuttle program, it is hoped that the vast pool of technology workers in Brevard County will be utilized by other new programs. It looks promising from reports I have read. All in all, this is a great place to live, work or be a tourist. Come on down and watch a launch from your...

Sea Oats provide natural protection for Florida's beaches. They hold everything together when hurricanes blow and are the tallest and most common of the grassy dune plants. Because they are critical to the the dune plant system, Florida law prohibits endangering them in any way. Their root system is a strong far reaching mass of tangled threads and stems that stabilize the sandy dune soil. A fiddler sand crab just went into his hole. Sorry but he wouldn't come back out for a photo op. I'll try again later. These photos are copyright (c), all rights reserved and may not be used or reproduced without permission from John Mayer. Captain Bill used to be my source for delicious Rock Shrimp. I brought a large paper grocery bag and he filled it up for $20. Try to find that deal today! Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty is now "advertising" these tasty treats for $14.99 and up per plate. It's the law of supply and demand and the supply has dried up due to over fishing. Port Canaveral is a much different place than when these photos were taken with my old Minolta 35 mm (the quality isn't the greatest). For the most part, I like the way the Port has transformed and enjoy all the events but I miss my $20 bag of fresh shrimp right off the boat! Shrimp Boats were sometimes docked 4 deep in the Port. The ones that are left are now mostly relegated to the north side of the Port.  Heading out to sea no matter what the weather. No ...

I almost forgot to post my Sunday Cape Canaveral Sunset photos so here they are. The sun had just set in the second shot and I zoomed in. I go down to the river every evening thinking how fortunate I am to live on Florida's Space Coast. Now if we can just get rid of hurricane season..........:-) These photos are copyright (c), all rights reserved and may not be used or reproduced without permission from John Mayer. I couldn't see the sun go down on Wednesday but at least the clouds and reflection were interesting. It's always nice to take a photo break at the end of the day!  Anne and Ginnie were two very special people who could make anyone they met their instant friend. Their cheery smiles and love of life affected everyone around them and the family misses that, especially on Mother's Day. Cherish the smiles that your Mother gives you when she receives that special bouquet of flowers. They are priceless! Having been working in Cape Canaveral this week helping a buyer purchase a condo, I just heard that Royal Caribbean will be bringing in the world's largest cruise ship on May 4, 2009 and Cape Canaveral will be it's home.  The Freedom of the Seas will be 1100 feet long, and hold over 4300 passengers.  It will house over 1300 crew members. The ship features a skating rink, a surfing simulator machine, and a boxing ring. Three more large ships, from various cruise lines will be built and be coming home to Brevard County Florida in the next couple of years.  The ship that I saw this week with my buyer was a smaller ship.  It holds just over 2700 passengers and less than 900 employees.  That ship is just under 900 feet long. I can't wait to see the new ship coming in! This article is author...

I am currently working with an international buyer that contacted me about 4 months ago, here on Active Rain. We have been corresponding ever since.  He's very funny.  Now, he is currently here in the states for 10 days to purchase a property and then he will go back to England.  We have spent several days looking at properties in Cape Canaveral Florida. It's funny as I talk to him, so often his comments are, " I know, I read that in your blog online." He has told me many times that he felt like he already knew me before he got here. He indicated that he's been reading my blog for sometime now, from over in England. I LOVE IT!  He said my Active Rain Blog is the reason he chose to do business with me. So I wanted to share some pictures of some of the beautiful sights we have seen during...

I feel so fortunate to live in Brevard County Florida.  As there are so many wonderful sights to see and places to visit.  Currently, I have been working with a buyer from out of the country that is hoping to purchase a condo near the beach. Fortunately for him, there are many properties to choose from, with some great prices too! We have been touring the city of Cape Canaveral Florida and I thought he would like to take a drive just up the street, to where you can see the fishing boats and the cruise ships in port.  We were lucky on this day to actually see a ship in dock.   We were also fortunate to see the fishing boats in port, that bring in the fresh seafood to the local markets. We even saw some local fishermen looking for a good spot of their own to drop a line. It was an absolut...
