Marla and I went to Portfest on Saturday and had a great time. I hope you enjoy this photo essay. Mai Tiki has been making tiki scultures in Cocoa Beach for 40 years. Go to www.maitiki.com. That's the Sun Cruz casino boat in the background. Peel and Eat Shrimp Eating Contest. I think they got to take some home. Marla and I went to Milliken's Reef in Port Canaveral today, relaxed and had a great time. We had wings and coconut shrimp. You need to take a break every now and then :-) Freedom of the Seas sailing by to cruise in the Bahamas The Mo Geetz Band is phenominal and features the best guitarist on the Space Coast in Austin Petit. Micah Read is a great vocalist and front man and composes original songs for the band. They are definitly a must see group if you visit the Space Coast. Life is tough in Florida! When many were sleeping, the Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center at 11:59PM last night. The shuttle had tried 3 times earlier in the week to liftoff, but with some tropical storm remnants and a problem with a fuel valve caused delays. But, the 4th time was the charm. This launch marcks one of the last seven missions that will fly, before the program retires in the next 2 years. There are hopes that the program could be extended until 2015. The seven member crew headed to the International Space Station will be leaving an engineer up in space, with other members already at the Space Station.  And they will be dropping off needed supplies. It is a 2 week mission, where the 13 astronauts will work together unloading the Discovery's precious cargo. We took thes... 08/29/2009

I took this photo on my bike ride after the afternoon showers rumbled through Cape Canaveral. That's the replica Space Shuttle pictured with the A1A on the left. The city doesn't have the same name recognition as Cocoa Beach but essentially, they are one big beach community along with Port Canaveral. All have upscale condos and homes mixed in with the old concrete block 6 and 8 plexes. The residents are diverse with surfer dudes and construction workers living along side affluent business owners and retirees. Everyone shares and loves the beach and most tolerate "tourist season" with the added traffic and wingnut drivers. Life is just better on the beach! Photos from my evening Bike ride in Cape Canaveral. The ocean was calm and serene. A surfer dude passed by and muttered something about "Lake Atlantic", obviously annoyed about the lack of waves. We get an afternoon tropical thunderstorm almost every day now so I have to time my bike rides carefully. Life is better on the beach!
