SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 rocket with a Telstar 18 VANTAGE communications satellite aboard on Saturday evening/Sunday morning. The Telstar 18 communications satellite for Telesat will provide broadcast, enterprise and government communications services over parts of China, India, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Ocean region. Hong Kong based APT Satellite also has an agreement to use capacity on the outgoihng satellite also known as Apstar 5C. The launch will be from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the launch window opens at 11:28pm on Saturday evening and closes at 3:28 Sunday morning. I have text-ed about previous rocket launches from Cape Canaveral in the past. Although this picture is all in good fun, this is basically what you see all along the Space Coast when a rocket goes up. Even the locals will stop what they are doing to go outside and watch for the telltale signs of a rocket hurtling into space from the Cape.There is a launch tonight from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station with an expected launch time of 6:32pm. SpaceX is scheduled to launch a Falcon 9 rocket early Tuesday morning from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. This launch will carry a commercial communications satellite for Spanish-based Hispasat. The satellite, known as Hispasat 30W-6, was manufactured by Space Systems Loral in Palo Alto, California and is a 12,000-pound spacecraft that will provide television, broadband and other communications services to the Americas and Europe. United Launch Alliance is slated to launch an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral this afternoon. A next-generation weather satellite will be launched to orbit 22,300 miles above the Earth that will serve almost the entire Western Hemisphere.The Lockheed Martin built satellite will launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Launch Complex 41. The launch is planned for 5:02 p.m.  Forecasters with the Air Force's 45th Weather Squadron expect 80 percent "go". It is a beautiful day today and I don't expect that weather would be a factor in hindering the launch. 03/01/2018

Space Exploration Technologies, better known as SpaceX is doing it again! Space X is planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket on November 15, 2017 at 8:00pm. The payload on this rocket is for the U S Government and was developed by Northrup Grumman. Called the Zuma payload, this launch has been clouded in mystery pretty much from the start and will launch into a LEO or Low Earth Orbit. The launch will be from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station which is a few miles south of the Kennedy Space Center. Space X is renowned for landing and reusing the first stage of their rockets. This rocket will land at Landing Zone - 1 also at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.Night launches light up the night sky brilliantly. I will definitely be watching!    11/03/2017

The weather looks good for a successful launch of a United Launch Alliance Atlas V Rocket on Friday morning from Launch Complex 41 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station . The launch window will open at 8:03 am and will last for 40 minutes.The Atlas V rocket is 191 feet tall and was rolled out to the pad yesterday. The Atlas V rocket will be the first launch for United Launch Alliance since April.  This will be the 37th mission for an Atlas V rocket. 2017 is set to be a banner  year in terms of launches from Cape Canaveral. The next launch is set for this coming Saturday, Febrauary 18, 2017.The launch window for the SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket (go Elon Musk!) opens at 10:01am. My blog on last night's launch needs an update. I was enjoying a tuni poki bowl for dinner last night with  friends on the beach, waiting for the rocket to go up. The launch window came and went with no rocket.According to United Launch Alliance, the launch was scrubbed due to technical and "range issues". Their Atlas V rocket, carrying a US military satellite,  is now scheduled to launch tonight, January 20th. The launch window for tonight opens at 7:42pm and goes to 8:22pm.  01/20/2017

United Launch Alliance is planning on launching an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station next Thursday, January 19th. The Atlas V rocket with carry a satellite built by Lockheed Martin with the launch planned for 7:46 pm.Whether a day or night launch, this events draw huge crowds along the Atlantic coast that can be seen for miles!Of course launch times can change, but, I will keep an I on things and let you know if anything changes.  01/13/2017

The weatherman is giving us a favorable 80% chance of success for a launch from Cape Canaveral tomorrow night.|The launch window for the United Launch Alliance Delta IV rocket opens at 6:53pm and goes until 7:42pm. If the rocket does not lift off during the 49 minute launch window, they will try again on Thursday with an expected 60% launch window. The rocket will combine 4 rocket motors that will give 2.1 million pounds of thrust at liftoff. The payload on this launch is for a $425 million dollar military satellite that will orbit 22,000 miles above the earths equator.  Let's hear if for launches from Cape Canaveral! 12/06/2016

Another launch is planned from Cape Canaveral this coming Thursday September 8, 2016. This launch is quite different from previous launches that I have told you about. An Atlas V rocket will take off from the Cape Thursday evening at 7:05pm. This  rocket will travel to an asteroid named Bennu, land, collect a sample of the asteroid and return to Earth. The rocket will not reach the Bennu asteroid until 2018 and will not return to Earth until 2023. Bennu has a 500 meter diameter and completes an orbit around our Sun every 1.2 years. Every 6 years it comes closer to the Earth which is why it was chosen for this mission. Very cool if all goes as planned!  09/06/2016

Some of you may remember my recent blog concerning a launch from the Cape this Labor Day Weekend. Well those plans came to an abrupt end when shortly after 9:00am this morning, the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket which was to carry a 200+ million dollar satellite into space blew up on the launch pad at Canaveral Air Station. Billowing black smoke could be seen from miles away. We still don't have all the details on the failure, but I suppose, space travel is a tricky business. Thankfully no one was injured or killed. SpaceX is  planning a Labor Day Weekend launch September 3rd, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.A Falcon 9 rocket will blast off at 3:00am carrying an Amos 6 Israeli communications satellite that will orbit 22,300 miles over the equator. There will be a two-hour launch window. Being that this is a SpaceX launch (go Elon Musk!), SpaceX is intending to land the rocket's first stage on a ship out in the Altantic, thus making this piece of equipment re-usable. While I'm not sure that I will be staying up that late for the launch, rest assured that this avid SpaceX fan will be cheering them on every step of the way!   08/31/2016

I know that I usually give more information about rocket launches off of Cape Canaveral, however, today's launch was a little different. A top secret spy satellite was launched this morning at 8:37am from Cape Canaveral for the National Reconnaissance Office. Because of the nature of the payload, there wasn't a lot of information given to the media. What I can tell you is that I was half way to Orlando when I heard on the radio that the launch had occurred. I looked to the east, and there was the tell tale trail of a perfect launch arching out over the Atlantic ocean on a perfect July morning. The 20 story rocket was propelled upward by 1.5 million pounds of thrust from two solid rocket boosters and is now in orbit 22,000 miles over the earth's equator..the mission was a complete succes... 07/28/2016

Yesterday I wrote about this mornings early launch (12:45 am) of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to the ISS. The major difference in this launch was not so much the launch but the landing, which was on terra firma at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The good news is that the entire process was a success. Even though we were warned of the likely hood of a sonic boom during the landing, it shocked many people on the ground. Sonic Booms were common during the Space Shuttle program, but apparently many people forgot about them and became alarmed when they were awakened to the noise and called authorities to report on the loud boom.I watched the launch, and the landing from my back yard and could clearly see the launch, and then the separation of the rocket and the Falcon 9's first stage. There is a launch planned tonight from Cape Canaveral. SpaceX is set to launch a Falcon 9 rocket packed with nearly 5,000 pounds of supplies for the International Space Station (ISS) late Sunday night/Monday morning. One of the pieces of equipment going up is an adapter that will allow commercial spacecrafts to dock at the ISS in the future.The launch window is scheduled to open at 12:45 a.m. Eastern time. SpaceX is planning on landing this rocket, but this time instead of landing it on a barge out in the ocean, SpaceX will be attempting to land on solid ground. SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket today just a little before 10:30am. On the rocket were two telecommunications satellites that were to were put into orbit 22,300 miles above the Earths equator.The unfortunate part of the news was that the landing of the rocket on a barge out in the Atlantic was not successful. But, I have complete and total confidence in SpaceX and Elon Musk. There have been 3 successful landings of rockets for SpaceX so far and let's face it, if SpaceX doesn't have the occasional failure, then they just aren't trying hard enough.   GO SPACEX! 06/15/2016

There is a planned launch this week from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. This launch will  carry a SpaceX Falcon 9 SES-9 Communications Satellite. This particular satellite will expand the available communications in Indonesia, the Philippines and South and Northeast Asia. Although the seats at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex tickets are sold out, great views can be seen from throughout the Space Coast. I like to go down to the beach and watch the launch from there.The launch window will open at 6:46pm. If weather postpones the launch, February 25th is the backup date. The rocket launch that was planned for today, Thursday December 3rd was postponed due to weather. The launch of the Atlas V rocket has been rescheduled for tomorrow Friday the 4th of December. Well, it's about that time again. Time for another rocket launch from the Cape! This coming Thursday December 3, 2015, an Atlas V rocket is scheduled to be launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.This launch is a cargo mission to the International Space Station ISS. The launch window is scheduled from 5:55pm to 6:25pm.You can see these launches from throughout the Space Coast, backyards are prime viewing spots.
