Believe it or not, this is a color picture!  What a gray, gray morning we awoke to here in Rehoboth today.  Even so, the sights were still beautiful, if also a bit eerie. p.s.  Silver Lake is one of the two largest, natural fresh water lakes in Delaware.  It is in South Rehoboth and only a few steps to the Atlantic Ocean.  This beautiful blue heron lives at Silver Lake with many ducks, Canada geese, turtles, fish and other critters.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, used to be a summer resort only.  The shops opened and the people came to town Memorial Day weekend.  Everything closed up and the people left on Labor Day.  The months in between were as devoid of activity as was the stretch of empty highway between Lewes and Rehoboth, before the outlet malls, restaurants and chain motels filled in where farmer's fields used to be. Since that day (and this was true as recently as 20 years ago), the merchants and managers of Lewes and Rehoboth have worked hard to make their communities more of a year-round resort, adding festivals and fun activities to draw tourists and seasonal residents back to the beach during the "shoulder seasons" of spring and fall.  January and February are the slowest months of the year, but there are s...

Thanksgiving Weekend is the setting for several lovely holiday traditions in Rehoboth Beach, DE.  One of my favorites is the Caroling and Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, held on Friday night, 6:30, at the Bandstand.  Carols are sung, hearts are warmed and the evening culminates in the lighting of the town's tree.  Santa is in his cottage on the Boardwalk, ready to hear the wish lists of all, the lighted figures, also on the Boardwalk, are lit as well.  Friday kicks off the Christmas season for Rehoboth Beach, which feels a lot like Bedford Falls on this magical night. The second event is the Rehoboth Hometown Christmas Parade on Monday night at 6:30.  That's Monday, December 1, at 6:30pm.  Conflicting dates and times have been reported in various media, but this is it...Mon...

The annual Autumn Jazz Festival is in full swing in Rehoboth Beach this weekend!  You can catch free live entertainment while enjoying a drink or dinner at many venues, or pay ticket prices and listen to a full concert in others.  One of the best gigs of the whole weekend is the free performance of the award-winning Cape Henlopen Jazz Band at the bandstand on Rehoboth Avenue Saturday, from noon-12;45pm.  A full list of events and tickets are available at http://www.rehobothjazz.com/ajf//pages/home.php.

As someone already commented, a picture is worth a 1,000 words...  Below are some of the photos from our recent trip to Rehobeth Beach - a beach sanctuary for us to take a break from the stress and anxiety that the real estate market can bring sometimes. The Boardwalk Plaza hotel in Rehobeth is simply awesome.  Browseabout Books has the best coffee in Rehobeth, and the beach itself - is beautiful.  We also saw many dolphins but missed the opportunity to catch a photo of them... next time !     Philadelphia Real Estate                          The Philadelphia Real Estate Blog

In the July/August, 2006, issue of AARP Magazine (American Association of Retired Persons), Rehoboth Beach and environs was cited as one of the top five places to retire in the country!  What was true then remains true today, and since the article's publication many more people are looking to Coastal Delaware as they plan their retirement years.             Qualities which drove AARP to include Rehoboth Beach in its prestigious list are as follows: Advantageous tax situation Delaware residents enjoy super-low property taxes No sales tax on goods, food or entertainment Social security and railroad retirement benefits exempt from income tax Taxpayers 60 years and older can exclude up to $12,500 of investment and qualified pension income Out-of-state government pensions also qualify for th...

It has started.....the annual slow-down to fall and the best time to be in Rehoboth Beach.  Now don't get me wrong.  I love our summer guests.  There are some delightful people who vacation here each summer and, frankly, the area wouldn't have much of an economy without them.  However, all of the visitors do make it a little difficult to get around town, and to find a place to park.  In fact, whenever possible in the summer, I walk or take my bike.  I would ride my bike to work each day if I didn't need a car at the ready for showing property. But now that it's mid-August, Maryland schools have started up again, high school sports and band practices have begun and one can now get across town in a vehicle in a reasonable amount of time and even find a parking space on Rehoboth Ave. (at l...

It's Beach Season here in Delaware! Here are some Pros and Cons you can look forward to if you live ANYWHERE near any crowded beach. PROS The sand. Most people love to take their shoes off and relax on the beach! There is usually a breeze, everyone is happy and nice, and it is R&R time. The water. For those who dont have a pool, or even if they do, some people just love to be by the water. Whether its for the sound, the smell, or to get in for a cool down.... beach goers love the water! The Boardwalk. Everything is right there at your fingertips just in case you need it. Food, shopping, games, memorbilia, food, shopping..... Put-Put Golf. The American Pass Time. Okay, so maybe its not that big... but if your playing with your family, friends, or spouse... you are shore to laugh, smile, ...

These weeks fly by so fast, I missed the first two of this weekend's concerts at the Rehoboth Bandstand.  But I'm not completely out of luck!  Saturday night will find Contagious, a popular party band, playing at the Bandstand beginning at 8pm.  Then on Sunday at 8, Wicked Jezabel, an all-girl party band will jazz up the night.  Enjoy the music and perhaps I'll see you there.

It is great to come to the beach to play in the sand and swim with the kids, take them to the boardwalk and mabye a summer movie.  Occasionally, the weather does not cooperate. Here's a suggestion - take them to the public library to look at books and hang out, albeit quietly. Rehoboth Beach Public Library is on the main drag of Rehoboth Avenue. http://www.rehobothlibrary.org/ And the Lewes Library is off of Kings Hwy in Historic Lewes. http://www.leweslibrary.org/ Both have a children's section with books, magazines, toys and the Rehoboth Library has a computer set up with children's learning software. So come to visit us at the Delaware Beaches even on a rainy day you can find great things to do.  A few hours in some place new might save a rainy day.

As the leavees on the trees begin to change and the air when the sun goes down becomes quiet refreshing we all are aware that Fall is in the air.  September is a beautiful time of year.  Football season begins and the kids are back in school.  However, the beach area is still in full swing.  There is so much still to do in this area this time of year.  We have the upcoming Sea Witch Festival the last weekend in October come and join the parade don't forget you costume and your pet.  Fun for everyone.  Also just around the corner the big JAZZ Festival!  The Ocean City Fall Car Show is the first weekend in October, bring your family and your old car and hang out and meet some new friends.  For more information on the weekend events on the Eastern Shore you can visit my website www.katieby...
