In Capitol Hill, there is a great institution, the Marine Barracks.  I wrote about their weekly parades prior.Every Friday night, crowds start to gather at 7pm for a seat at the 8:45pm Parade.  The Eastern Market Metro is in Capitol Hill, in Washington DC.  It's a great neighborhood, along Pennsylvania Avenue SE, literally eight blocks from the US Capitol Dome. It's the market area for the neighborhood, but also finds many tourists here.  If you start walking down 8th St SE, you are now in the very middle of Barracks Row. Barracks Row itself has some businesses, but is best known for it's dining, the best favorite at the moment being Rose's Luxury, which will usually require a very lengthy wait, regardless of your diplomatic or VIP credentials.  In some ways, we are all equal at Rose's Luxury.On the way to Rose's Luxury from the Metro or from Penn.Ave, you'll notice a heavier than normal concentration of barber shops. Today is one of those very rare days that my blog will be "off topic," meaning there will be no tie to the Tallahassee real estate market. Every so often I feel compelled to share my viewpoint on a current event, and today I want to share a unique perspective on a hot global story that differs from many who were quick to speak out. Did you know that there is a proposed bill that would put mortgage brokers out of business? Regulation Z - [R-1366] is that bill. R-1366 eliminates consumer choices by eliminating Yield Spread Premiums which would not allow mortgage brokers to offer consumers zero point or reduced fee loans. The banks will not be effected by this new law and would still be able to offer consumers zero point loans and reduced closing cost loans.  The competitive disadvantage could put mortgage brokers out of business. I believe this is just another big bank ploy to eliminate a sizable amount of their competition.  Can you say --> End to competition?  Whatever happened to Democracy, free trade, and competition?  The government is putting is regulatory hand into everything!            The Washington DC is the home of many military bases and installations.  Since I work with many military families relocating I thought it only fitting to profile these bases.How fitting; but to start with the Marine Barracks in Washington DC.  Located in the District at 8th Steet and I Street SE; the Marine Barracks is the oldest Active Post in the Marine Corps. The Marine Barracks was established in 1801 by President Thomas Jefferson, who was looking for a location that was both close to the Navy Yard as well as within marching distance to the US Capitol.Every Commandant of the Marine Corps since 1806 has called this place home, along with the United States Marine Band, (aka 'The Presidents Own' Band), Drum and Bugle Corps, Silent Drill Platoon, and the Color Guard.The Marin... 01/21/2008
