Along the Banks of the Naugatuck River - Anyone familiar with Waterbury and its history knows that many of the old factories that powered Waterbury's dominance of the region were located near the Naugatuck River, which somewhat divides the city almost in half. Waterbury's more affluent neighborhoods (Bunker Hill, Town Plot, Robinwood, West Side and Country Club) all lie west of the Naugatuck River. Route 8 neatly runs parallel to the Naugatuck River through town on the same side, crossing it once in the South End.
