We had a particularly difficult winter with the cold and snow. For some reason the flowers and shrubs in our yard have been a little slow in coming out. Yesterday as I started to do some cleanup, I had an opportunity to really see the yard, and I was really pleased to see the earth starting to wake up. The dogwood at the top of the driveway is starting it's blossoms, which means the birds especially the hummingbirds will be around, but you need to look quickly to find them. Also, the pachysandra at the base of my trees are starting to blossom, and I had forgotten that they do blossom. I don't remember who, but some time ago an ActiveRain member posted a blog warning about creeping myrtle, and the damage it can do. I do recall commenting about pachysandra and how easy it is to manage and...

In the West end of Waterbury Ct is the most unique collection of homes in the city, in an area known as just The Ridges. Just as the beginning of Oronoke Rd, is the entrance to a selections of homes that can still capture the essence of early Waterbury Ct and the lifestyles of the people that were known to all. The first homes in the subdivision were built in 1933, and all are still standing, updated for modern conveniences, and still offering a touch of elegance. The stone monument at the entrance of the Cul-De-Sac serves as a reminder to those that entered that this was not just any residential neighborhood. The years have removed the guarded exclusivity of this Waterbury, CT subdivision and it has become a neighborhood ideal for raising a family. The tree lines streets maintain the ...

One of the more developed, yet cozy areas of Waterbury Ct would be the Pierpont Rd Area. This access road connecting Meriden Rd and East Main St in Waterbury's Very East End is one of most sought after neighborhoods for housing because of it's convenience to the highways and services. The Pierpont Rdarea is bounded by East Main St to the south, Meriden Rd to the north and Norris St to the West. The Pierpont Rd area is mix of simple residential homes with some small condo complexes, interspersed. The style of home would be a cross of ranches with an occasional cape style. The streets are wide and it's not unusual to see the kids riding their bikes or playing ball. Many of the people who live in this area may well have moved in back in the mid'50's when the homes were first built. Neighbo...

Not an April Fool but a reality. The Federal Tax Rebate program for First Time Home Buyers has just 30 days left for getting as home under contract. This would be the end of the second extension to this program, and in all likelihood, the end of the program completely. For the first quarter of 2010, 42% of all home purchases across the country were by First Time Home buyers who were taking advantage of the 'perfect storm' for their real estate experience. Probably never again will there be the combination of record low mortgage rates, low home prices, and an $8,000 tax rebate to make the transition easier. The program has not had the intended response in stirring our economy, and that may be the basis for not getting it extended. The new home purchase does not need to close by the end ...

Some of the finest condos in Waterbury Ct are located with a 1/2 mile area of each other on Oronoke Road. These complexes would be Oronoke Woods, Oronoke Ridge and Taft Pointe. Within these 3 complexes can be found both spacious town house and ranch 2 bedroom units. All the units were well planned to provide economical living space but with necesssary garden and open space areas to avoid a cluster-phobic feeling.    Oronoke Ridge is the largest of the three complexes with 268 units, built in 1986. The sizes of the condos range from 924 sq ft for 2 bedroom ranch styles to 1330 sq ft for a 2 bedroom town house. The condos are built on a hillside with many of the units offering a panoramic view of the Naugatuck Valley. Currently there are 22 active condos for sale in the complex with a pri...

Closed a nice single family starter home. The buyer hopefully will see the house and be happy with it. I say that because the buyer has only seen photos of the home that the Realtor sent. The buyer of this house is deployed to Iraq and wanted to take advantage of the tax rebate for first time home buyers. She only saw photos of the house, and placed all of the responsibility for the purchase on the agent, which is nothing that I would have assumed. Through the inspections, there wasn't much that we needed to change, but I would have handled it a bit different. The agent was green, didn't fill out the proper forms, I had to chase here repeatedly. When it came time for the closing, the agent did not do a final walk through to make sure the inspections issues were resolved. Did not attend ...

Barty and Dunny met in a pub and discussed the illness of a friend named Hogan. "Poor Micheal Hogan! Faith, I'm afraid he's goin' to die." "Shure, an' why would he be dyin'?" asked the other. "Ah, he's gotten so thin. You're thin enough, and I'm thin -- but by my soul, Micheal Hogan is thinner than both of us put together." Irishman went to a pet shop and asked how many budgies were in stock. "We have 99" replied the shop owner "Give us the lot" said the Irish man, paid for them and left. He went to a tailors shop and had 99 pockets sewn into a jacket, put a budgie in each pocket, went up to the Post Office Tower and jumped off. He hit the ground with an almighty smack and lay there groaning until a passer-by came and asked him what had happened. "I don't know sur" he replied "but th...
