And Then the Day is Upon Us, Class of 1966 ReunionBack in June, I started the task of hosting the class reunion for my high school. It was special for a few reasons, it is our 60th anniversary, we were the first class to graduate from what was then a new high school, and I knew a few of our officers had passed.Even as I viewed the photo taken at our 50th reunion, I would glace at the faces and seemingly recognize some.I created a Facebook page, and did get some responses, a few of which were local and gave me a database of names.From there it was develop a mailer and send out invites, 120 of them.  I got back the undeliverable cards, after all it has been 10 years. Home Depot in Waterbury CT Celebrates the Festival of LightsThere was something about the music at the Waterbury CT Home Depot today that was slightly out of the norm. The songs had a Holiday tone, but the words were strange to me.  As I was getting over to the cashier's area a cluster of children and adults caught my eye. They were focused on each other and watching the kids activities.  It seemed to be more of a kids' birthday celebration than the normal Home Depot style of instructional presentation.  A closer look saw the kids busy at assembly something on the make-shift table they had.  Then it all made sense to me.  The music, the kids and the pieces they were making, menorahs made of wood.I had to ask the attendant from Home Depot what they were doing and got a very detailed expl...

It may not be 1313 Mockingbird Lane or 0001 Cemetery Lane but the lawn decorations are ghoulish and will cause many a youngster reason to fear walking up for candy on Halloween. The decorations started to be put out in August, or at least that's when the ground out front appeared to be freshly dug for some reason.  These arrivals kept people off the lawn maybe serving as a diversion for what might lie beneath.  I could only chat briefly with the husband who claimed his wife has been out of the country for a few months now, having left sometime in late July.The house is on Edgewood Ave in Waterbury CT.  Very easy to find, just take the first right before the cemetary. Halloween Decorations That Just Scream at You in Waterbury CT

The Flood of 1955 A Memory too Difficult to Forget in Waterbury CT August 19, 1955 was a dark day in Connecticut history. It was the day the worst of the waters of the previous 3 days had come to a peak and came flooding down a valley corridor from the Massachusetts line and stopped at Long Island Sound. It has become remembered as the Great Flood of 1955 and we are 60 years removed from that date this week.  It was a catastrophe that hit the Naugatuck Valley corridor and changed the landscape of the 'Valley' forever.   The state had an exceptionally wet August with over 14 inches of rain recorded for the month.  The rains had already left streams and the normally peaceful Naugatuck river straining to stay within in their banks, and then the final blast with Hurricane Diane. Almost 4 in...
