Friday Flags in Prospect 06712On my way back home this afternoon, I noticed our flag flying heartly on the town green. It was inspiring enough for me to loop back to capture. It is framed by the Veteran's monument on the green and the building at the rear is the original Meeting house. It is always a pleasure to see a flag, and when it is waving in the breeze, even better. .Friday Flags in Prospect 06712

Happy Birthday America July 4th, Independence Day, is the traditional day of recognizing the birth of our country as the separation of the original 13 colonies from British Rule. The Continental Congress in drafting its Declaration of Independence, sought to create the foundation of a country where freedom could be enjoyed without the interference of a foreign entity. All members of the Congress signed the document, with one member, John Hancock, deliberately writing in large script, so that ‘All those in England could read his name without use of opticals’Over the years, we have evolved into the country of Liberty in the world, and defender of Democracy. We have sought to maintain our isolation and although we have been able to not interfere in the problems of other countries, we have ...

Everybody Needs a Place to Call Home 4We have been gone for a week, nd when we came back, I went out to check on the birds nesting in the yard.I looked at the nest in the tree, first, and didn't see a thing, not even the nest.  I looked on the ground, and there was the nest turned over.  I feared that maybe the wind had knocked it over and the hatchlings were grabbed by a larger predator. When I turned the nest over, it was completely empty and no signs of carnage.I chose to presume the best and they flew off and the nest was no longer needed.I was more positive about the nest in our front door wreath and was expecting to see jumping birds ready for food.It too was empty and all is good.I am sorry I didn't get to see them a little linger but I suppose they are out and doing their things ...

A 5 Star Testimonial from a Satisfied Connecticut Client Getting a positive response from a client makes the heart brighter.Ed Silva was our agent in selling my townhouse in Danbury then subsequently purchasing a single family house in Hamden CT.  Ed is really the consummate professional.  He is very knowledgeable of the real estate industry - very frequently throughout the selling of my property and in acquiring my new house I would defer to Ed whenever there was an issue or an area that I didn’t understand - and felt assured that Ed was well versed on the topic and could supply a solution.  Ed is a very smart man and is a wiz at housing, architecture, and engineering in general.  Ed showed great patience with my wife and me with just a torrent of questions about the structure of both ...

Everybody Needs a Place to Call Home 3This past week I have been very careful about the nest on our front door wreath as I did not want to alarm mom. As I was walking past, if mom flew away, I would take a peek to see how the chicks were doing. Early in the week, as I peeked into the nest the chicks did not move at all. This had me concerned as I feared that maybe they had been neglected and were not alive.I left the nest alone and walked away.I was very pleased however when I went back later in the week, and they were chirping. I guess they just needed some extra rest.We have a sizeable yard and while mowing the lawn I noticed some activity near our deck.  We have a rose of Sharon tree which is the closest I can get to a crepe myrtle here in CT. We are too cold for that southern beauty...

Everybody Needs a Place to Call Home 2Our front door wreath has become a nursery, and I have feared that momma bird would abandon the nest. As I walked up to the door today, I ducked as a bird flew right past me.That was a good sign and also as I got closer, there were 4 little fur balls all anxious. All of the droppings on the rim of the next attest to momma spending a lot of time with her brood.I don't hear them crying for her but hopefully we will get to see them taking first flight.Everybody Needs a Place to Call Home 2

Flag Day Celebration in Prospect, CTThis was a week where all should have proud waved the flag as Wednesday was Flag Day. As I drove around that day I did look for flags and I saw some but not as many as I had hoped. Of course the flag on out front stoop was ablaze in sun.Our Town of Prospect, CT does take the day seriously and on the town green, in front of the Town Hall, the flag was not to be missed.   Flag Day, also called National Flag Day, in the United States, is a day honoring the national flag, observed on June 14. The holiday commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag. It was by request of Gen. George Washington that Betsy Ross led the ladies that made that first flag. The idea to set aside a day to honor the national fl...

Everybody Needs a Place to Call HomeEarlier in the month I wrote about the bird activity in our front stoop.  A nest had been built in the decorative wreath we have on our front door. When I looked at the nest there were 4 eggs and I feared that the mother would have abandoned the nest.I took a peek today after seeing a bird fly away from our front door and was surprised to see chirping beaks looking for food in the nest.I went in to get the camera to take a photo and all I got was fur, but they are in there and momma is attending to them.It will be a while longer before they are ready to fly, and I hope they keep the noise down.Everybody Wants a Place to Live Everybody Needs a Place to Call Home

Friday Flags in Prospect CT June 2023+While sitting at the computer reading the blogs this morning, I realized that I didn't have a flag to post for Friday. Not a problem, as I only had to look out the window to see a possibility. To the left of the front stoop is the UConn banner. I am a 1971 graduate and proud of the school and the teams. It is standing atop the red dwarf maple that adorns the right side of the stoop. On the opposite side of the front porch is our country's flag. It is always out there, no disrespect intended.I have flown the flag ever since I moved into my first home in 1978, as a matter of pride in my country and for the service I gave it.I will keep a sharper eye this week to find a business that shares the sentiments. There is always the main streets through Prospect...

Love Is In The Air in Prospect CT  Wordless WednesdayWhile sitting and working at my window spot, I noticed movement on the front lawn. I tried to focus on what it was and was pleasantly shocked to see some new wildlife make a visit.I caught this tom just before it dropped down to the neighbor's yard, and sat ad waited as I saw a couple others down there as well. There were 2 males and when they thought she was looking, they would spread their wings and tail feathers and make their calls to try and entice the one hen. They danced on that lawn for a while, and she seemed to be nonplussed by their actions. As couple of cars passed on the road and she waked across but not alone. She managed to stay away from both toms, and out of courtesy, I didn't follow them into the woods where she may ha...

Spring Blossoms are Coming to an End in Prospect CTThe spring blooms are coming to an end in our yard and it has been a most pleasant array of colors. The daffodils have run their course, but there is an appreciation that next year they will be more bountiful as they spread their roots to allow for more blooms the following year. The flox in the rock garden is starting to make its colors known and once we get through the rains they will blossom for at least a week. And the capper to that corner of the yard is the choke cheery tree that is now in its full spring color. We enjoy the colors and are appreciative of having same throughout the summer. Over the next few days, the azaleas will start to form blossoms and after that are the rhododendrons.Spring Blossoms are Coming to an End in Prospe...

The Spring Colors are Showing Proudly in Prospect CTThe days are longer and getting warmer and with that the flowers are starting to really show off. We have colors all over our yard with several large clusters of daffodils.Even this hyacinth seems to be larger and prettier than it was last year.Along the side yard are the laurels that are starting to show their pink hues and of course the forsythia, which also brings on the pollen. It won't be long before the grass will need regular attention and of course there's the garden. Until that starts, I have a little extra time to play a little golf and of course sell a couple of houses. The Spring Colors are Showing Proudly in Prospect CT

Friday Flags In Prospect CT Rt 69 RoadwayThere are 2 main roads that run through Prospect CT. The Waterbury Rd or Rt 69 and the Naugatuck Cheshire Rd or Rt 68.Driving down Rt 68 one day this week, I saw our flags flying across the roadway from each other.  One was in front of the town garage, and the other was in front of the VFW post. The flags were at half-mast to honor the soldiers that died in the helicopter crash in Kentucky. While honoring the dead, they were still nice to see at full flutter.Friday Flags In Prospect CT Rt 69 Roadway

Spring Is Sneaking Into Prospect CT  4.2.23Spring is reluctant to show its full colors here in Prospect, CT and w We can't really blame it as earlier this seek we got another dusting of snow and the wind and temps are anything but Spring-Like.But, still I managed to find some reminders that spring colors are always appreciated.A small bunch of mini-daffodils and a hyacinth braved the fresh air, although they may be wondering why.Up against the shelter of this building, these hyacinths are larger but the daffodils are wondering why they got up so early. I get that same feeling some mornings myself. This week should be warmer, and more blossoms will sprout. A least that's my hope.Spring Is Sneaking Into Prospect CT  4.2.23

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Spring in Prospect CTSt Patrick's Day and it's festivities are over and as it is mid-March, and the clocks have made their move, all signs are pointing to spring. There is still some snow on the ground, but in some areas, it's getting close. The crocus sprouted and I almost missed them. The daffodils have started their growth and as happens they will be thicker and more plentiful than last year. They self propagate.Along our rock garden, the daffodils are also sprouting and as they get older they will eventually cover the entire area. And everyone knows that the foremost sign of spring are the robins, and I had this proud bird, puff out its breast for me to appreciate. The best sign of spring for me will be the pins being put back onto the greens. I can hard...
