Darien has a population of about 19,710 (2007) with an estimated median household income of $176,442 (2009) with an area of 14.9 square miles that includes six parks, two town beaches, athletic fields and tennis courts. There are nine private clubs in Darien along with an ice rink and YMCA. First quarter of 2011 market housing data for single family homes in Darien, Connecticut. Jobless Rate Has Its 4th Consecutive Monthly Decline. According the this weekend's Wall Street Journal the jobless rate in America has had its fourth consecutive monthly decline, edging down to 8.8%, this is a full percentage point down from November. The news has sent the Dow Jones up to 12376.72, the highest close for 2011. Snowed In Darien, Ct. Jan 27, 2011.   Yet another snow storm last night, over 15 inches here in Darien on top of more snow than we usually get in a season. I-95 has been at a standstill for several hours, Metro-North Trains were shut down this morning but now on a weekend schedule and yes school is closed. Here is a video of what I woke up to this morning, beautiful white fluffy snow but just a lot of it. Luckily the sun is coming out and blue skies so hopefully it will melt down.  Snow Storm for Darien, Ct. ~ Jan. 21, 2011. Once again more snow in Darien, Connecticut, our 6th storm in four weeks. With almost six inches this morning, schools are canceled but the Metro-North trains are running on schedule. The town’s maintenance crews are hard at work plowing the roads; other crews are already clearing off sidewalks and parking lots. 9 am and the sun is just beginning to come out with a wonderful blue sky. For single family properties Darien unit of sales are up 35.7% from 2009 along with the average year to date (YTD) up 17.9% Darien, YTD  2010 A total of 247 single family properties sold in 2010 compared to 182 in 2009.
