Black Rock businesses dominated in their categories in Fairfield County Weekly's annual survey again in this year's Readers Poll.  In fact, the editors of Fairfield County Weekly were sufficiently impressed ot create a special category for our Black Rock community culture.  The Fairfield Weekly staff noting that "the businesses and residents of Black Rock have somehow carved out a unique identity for their seaside community." Although there are no official boundaries for the St. Mary's-by-the-Sea section of Black Rock, most often the section from Balmforth to the seawall comprising about 160 homes, has been what Black Rockers consider to be St. Mary's as it is the area closest to the the St. Mary's-by-the-Sea park and contains the city's highest rated Residential zone called Res AA (more land, more street frontage requirements than Res A zone). Balmforth Street is highlighted in red and Brewster Street is highlighted in green on the map above. However, an article in the New York Times Real Estate section on May 19, 2010 called "Living in St. Mary's-by-the-Sea: A Waterfront Enclave" expands the boundaries to Brewster Street. Bridgeport, CT (May 11, 2010) - As the newest official Rotary Club in Connecticut, the Black Rock Rotary will be hosting their Charter Dinner at Brooklawn Country Club on June 2, 2010.  With over 30 new members in the group, Black Rock will be the first Rotary group to be chartered in the Fairfield County district in over 10 years. The Charter is a significant milestone, as it makes official the club's status at the international level.
