Greetings! Our Arctic blast rolled in on schedule, with the fahrenheit hovering around zero.  Unfortunately, not enough snow for a snow day from school... We are lucky here in Estes to have a lot of local talent, and they are all very generous with their gifts during the holiday season. Last night, the Estes Park Jazz Band and Village Concert Band had their annual Christmas concerts.  Tonight is the Estes Park High School concert, and tomorrow the Middle School Band will wrap up the school performances.  The audiences are appreciative and enthusiastic, even if it is freezing outside! Have a great week, Lisa

Greetings from Estes Park! They say that elk are not the most intelligent of creatures...however, they do seem to be smart enough to hang out on the golf course when there are hunters around! Yesterday, on the way to school, the elk were crossing the highway on their way back to the golf course for the day, and there was an "elk-jam" on HWY 7 for a mile! (you can't use elk as an excuse for being tardy just anywhere...) I took this photo just before it started snowing, we are expecting an arctic blast this weekend and the elk herd will be hiding in the trees. Have a great weekend!  Lisa

We woke up this morning to a sunrise that had the entire Estes Valley lit up with bright orange and pink "alpenglow" (that's the technical term for sunrise hitting the mountain tops while the valley is still in shade) Estes Park is such a wonderful place to live...or to visit!  If anyone would like a referral for a great place to stay or a fantastic local restaurant, just send me an e-mail and I'll be happy to help. Greetings from Estes Park! Even though Estes Park is a small mountain town with a year round population of 7000 or so, we have the benefit of many retired professionals residing with us.  The Oratorio Society of Estes Park has among its members a former New York stage manager, Air Force band director, music department heads from DePaul and Calvin College...it is an honor for me to play third trumpet with them. (they make me practice...) The Oratorio's mission statement reads: "Our mission is to provide an opportunity for area musicians to perform major choral and instrumental classical music for the enrichment of our community. Participation is open to any singer or instrumentalist who wishes to perform and has a commitment to the necessary rehearsals." We had our Christmas Concert this...

Seasonality and the decrease in demand are bringing the number of sales down considerably at this time. Fortunately, median prices are holding relatively steady most likely influenced by the lack of urgency from sellers who aren't motivated enough to drop their price and can afford to wait it out. Inventory is continuing to decrease in all categories which is a good sign. Check out my blog for more information and statistics about the Estes Park Real Estate Market

Greetings from Estes Park! We live at the eastern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park at an elevation of 7522 feet above sea level. The holiday season here looks like something out of a Christmas fantasy with lights up and down the streets and snow falling like powdered sugar decorating a gingerbread house. One of our great local events is the "Holiday House" at the Holiday Inn.  It is a benefit for our local hospital foundation, and features a flea market, silent auctions and entertainment. Our local "Estes Park Village Jazz Band" performs every year for the hundreds of shoppers.  I'm a member of the trumpet section, which is quite an honor for an amatuer like me to be able to play with some retired professionals. We are required to wear "something Christmassy", which, for musicians, ...

Greetings from Estes Park! Our Holiday season officially begins with our annual day-after-Thanksgiving "Catch The Glow" parade down Elkhorn Avenue. This year, the weather was more than cooperative...cold, but no wind and just a touch of snow in the air.  Our parade is small-town charming, with the floats riding down the street on the back of construction trucks and trailers with tons of lights. My friends from the Village Band play Christmas standards, as does our high school marching band. (They're younger, they actually march down the street...) I wish all my ActiveRain friends a wonderful holiday season!  Lisa

Happy Thanksgiving from Estes Park! Our family has had a challenging two years getting our oldest son, AJ, on track with his Type 1 diabetes. It's easy to feel a little sorry for yourself sometimes.  At one of the last Continuous Glucose Monitor training sessions at the Barbara Davis Center at Children's Hospital in Denver, we met a 10 year old boy who was accompanied by his elderly grandparents.  Grandpa was a retired road worker on oxygen, Grandma was learning computer programming for her grandson's new apparatus.  While we were on a break, we found out that the little boy also had cystic fibrosis.  That meant that he was sick a lot like AJ, but he ended up in an ICU on oxygen. Grandpa told us that he is terminal at some point, but that he was dealing with it pretty well for a 10 year...

Greetings from Estes Park! I was reading and commenting on some fantastic blogs from ActiveRain members, and went back to my own blogs to look at the comments.  It seems to me that the best blogs are about helping the community and sharing information that can benefit someone along the way...definitely not a "it's all about me" sales pitch. After 20 years as waitstaff and bartender in a few really great restaurants that prided themselves on product knowledge and customer service, it occurrs to me that selling real estate is a lot like waiting tables.  It's all about how we can help our customers, to give them information to make an informed choice, to make their experience as pleasant as possible and to show them that we value their business and look forward to seeing them again. If we ...

Greetings from Estes Park! Our October market report from the Estes Park Board of Realtors revealed that while single family residential units sold was lower than last year, condos, vacant land, commercial property and income properties sold are steady.  Good news is that median prices are holding! This photo was taken on a Monday morning in September, right after I dropped my boys off at school.  The white buildings in the foreground are the Historic Stanley Hotel structures. I wish the best for all my ActiveRain friends this week, I hope you find the pot of gold at the end of your rainbows!  Lisa

Greetings from Estes Park! Since my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in January, 2007, my family and I have gone through a learning process about this disease and its effects. Before AJ's diagnosis, we shared many of the misconceptions about Type 1 diabetes. We learned that Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease. Kids don't develop Type 1 diabetes as a result of inactivity or being overweight. This is a photo of our family right before AJ (the cute kid with the red sweatshirt) was diagnosed.  He was showing the usual symptoms of a virus, but began losing weight rapidly. We are fortunate to live close to the Barbara Davis Center for Juvenile Diabetes at Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and have had the most excellent medical care and training available. The symptoms of T...

I love living in Estes Park, Colorado. I actually had a hard time narrowing the list to 25 reasons. Stay tuned this summer and I'll come up with another list for you. Your significant other wants a new home in the Rocky Mountains for Christmas. The mountains captivate the imagination by looking different every day. Wildlife is not affected by economic difficulties. Elk, deer, coyotes, mountain lion, bobcat, bear, badger, bighorn sheep can all still be found around town. Greetings from Estes Park! I would like to send my thanks to all the Veterans who have served this country. They have given their time and sometimes their lives to protect those of us who remain at home. No matter what your political affiliations are, I think we can all join together and express our gratitude to our Veterans! We have a dear friend, Anne, who is a Colonel serving her third tour of duty in Iraq. She was in the Pentagon at the time of the bombing on 911 and was deployed to the Middle East shortly after. We will be welcoming her home to Estes Park in April when she retires...

Greetings from Estes Park! We had the greatest time on Halloween, the weather was warmer than usual, so the kids didn't need to wear their ski suits under the costumes.  Moms and Dads were out in force, too, meeting and greeting friends on Elkhorn. Later, everyone had the chance to enjoy their friends at their favorite local establishment while the kids finished up with trick or treating.  One of my favorites places for Halloween evening is "Wine" and "Cheese"...Locals Barney and Maggie Treadway have a fantastic wine shop with an adjacent restaurant.  When you're in Estes Park, make it a point to stop by, I think you'll love it!

Pricing your property to sell is the most important part determining if your home will sell or sit with a for sale sign in your yard for months on end. In my opinion, pricing your property accurately is more often an art form than an exact science. I explain why on my blog post and include 3 Simple Steps to pricing your Property
