What Should Have Been My First Choice, Was My Last Choice. This is NOT an advertisement for my company, but a bit about me. Cedaredge Land Company isn't my company...I don't own it, but I've called it my home away from home for two and half years. This is where I spend a good deal of my time, and where I've made some really great friends. I got my real estate license in July of 2007, right when the market tanked in my rural area. The slow market conditions made my new career venture seem very scary, but I had just finished up ten years as a stay at home mom, and this career choice was going to be something I did for me. It was difficult enough being new to the business, and not knowing the different local real estate offices made it even more challenging. Which office should I choose? F...

It's Graduation Season in Delta County, Colorado...Here's a Different Ceremony. This one was really for the dogs. Yes it's doggie graduation from beginning dog obedience class. This was yet another event sponsored by the Delta Department of Recreation through The Bill Heddles Rec Center. I was there with my dog, Bear. Here's Sue Shelton taking Bear through the agility course. This wasn't the focus of our class, but the instructor was giving us a taste of the next phase of training. Sue had to handle Bear for me because I have a badly sprained foot. This first phase of training covered the basics like leash manners, heeling, sit, down, sit stay, down stay and come. This was as much an education for the owners as well as the dogs. Judy Leonard was the instructor and she was really great a...

This Is What A Delta County, Colorado Traffic Jam Looks Like. Some of you in the larger metro areas may appreciate this kind of traffic jam, but just like anything that holds up your progress on the road, it can be frustrating. This picture was taken near Hart's Basin in Cedaredge, Colorado. I was running late, but stopped to take a picture anyway. I just have to laugh when this happens, and it does more than you realize. One time I had to stop for a flock of geese, sometimes it's sheep. It's really amazing to see the modern day cowboys and their dogs work the animals and keep them moving down the road. In a situation like this you carefully weave your car through the livestock. You have to be careful NOT to startle the animals. You don't want a cow kicking or charging your car. That be...

Having Just Lost A Beloved Family Pet This Poem Means So Much. After ten years, we said goodbye to Chaco for the last time. Chaco was a large mixed breed puppy that I adopted from the local animal shelter just over 10 years ago. His illness was sudden and the vet coudn't determine why he became paralyzed. But I know if Chaco could write...this is what he would leave his family. The picture below was taken the morning we had to put Chaco to sleep. He got one last bone. With Easter just around the corner, this is also a great reminder...if you are going to get a cute Easter Bunny or chick for someone, remember that is a living creature that needs to be cared for and is a commitment. This isn't something to give just for the sake of giving, and with no thought on how you will care for the ...

Colorado Just Died and Went To Football Heaven. It appears the rumors are true and there is just some paperwork to get through, but it looks like Peyton Manning will be playing for the Denver Broncos. What a day for Bronco's fans. The offense seems suited to a quarterback like Manning. As a long time Bronco's Fan I just wish the best for the team, and this seems like a great move. I can't wait for next season and the new excitement this will bring. For all your Western Colorado Real Estate Needs... Spring Is On Hold...Mother Nature Is Reminding Us It's Only Mid March. Here on the Western Slope of Colorado we've enjoyed wonderful weather for the last week, or so. Temperatures were in the 50s and 60s and, I started buying sandals in anticipation of the upcoming warmer weather. I know it's only temporary, but Mother Nature is reminding us it's still early and anything can happen when it comes to the weather. My herb plants liked the warmer weather and some of them started poking their little heads up through the ground. Today we got a bit of snow and there is a lot more expected tonight. It won't last long, and it's just a gentle reminder that spring isn't here in full force, as of yet. This is a tarragon plant bravely checking out the climate. It's a hardy herb plant, so the snow an...

Cedaredge, Colorado Girls Tennis Is Underway.  The high school girls team officially kicked off the season last week, and the girls are working hard and looking forward to their first match. The first match is Tuesday, March 13 against the Montrose Indians. Coach Mic is doing a great job and working hard to make sure the girls are ready. The girls can really practice in style this year, since the public courts were resurfaced. This was a project funded by Colorado Lottery dollars. New Storm Brings Increased Danger To The High Country (And A Nice Picture). In most of the Western Mountain areas of Colorado up two new feet of heavy snow fell over the course of last night and today. This means the avalanche danger is at a high level. The strong winds are also adding to this problem. This comes directly from the Colorado Avalanche Center....The avalanche danger is HIGH (Level 4) in all avalanche terrain today. Natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered are very likely. Some of these avalanches could be some of the largest we've seen this season. Back-country travel is not recommended. Already there have been numerous avalanche related deaths across the state, including a snowboarder in the Telluride area. Skiers and snowboarders aren't the only ones that need t...

Good Food, Good Friends And A Great Setting To Watch The Broncos Move Forward In The Playoffs. We celebrated another Bronco's win At RJ's Steakhouse in Cedaredge, Colorado. The Broncos are moving forward in the playoffs after today's win against the Stealers in OT. Rich and Linda Dorn own RJs, and if you are ever in Cedaredge, CO, stop in for some great food and hospitality. Usually the restaurant is closed on Sunday, but Rich is a big Stealers Fan and we thought this game was a great occassion to get together and have fun. That's Linda, on the right, and Karen. Dinner was potluck style and the food was just wonderful. My husband is one of the chefs and today he made roasted duck and smoked salmon. Now the big question is who will host next week's game. GO BRONCOS!!!! For all your Weste...

I Just Had to Share This Picture...The Christmas packages have arrived in record number today from our out of town family. All of our family is out of town. Unless we travel we have Christmas with just the three of us and friends. Traveling is difficult for us because we have a small farm we own and take care of. My husband, myself and our teenage daughter enjoy Christmas to ourselves and with some close friends. Today was a record day for UPS and the packages that were delivered to our house. I think our cats are getting a lot of enjoyment and use from the packaging material. Loki is the big white. He was a rescue from a bank owned listing I had 1.5 years ago. We bottle fed him. Little Buddy was rescued in our county, but found about six months ago at an adoption center in another coun...

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...Or Day 1 Of This Winter's Subaru Challenge. Yes old man winter has finally arrived. Well over 7 inches of snow fell on this area of Delta County last night. My biggest challenge was getting my daughter out of bed so we could get an early start and digging out the car. After that everything was easy. The Subarus I've owned have never let me down. I have to travel anywhere from 1/4 mile to over 1 mile of unplowed roads when we get this much snow. Along the way we picked up a few kids waiting for the bus, which was running over 15 minutes late. It was a great time. The most snow I've had to take this Subaru through was two years ago. We got a foot of the white stuff, and I had to travel over a mile on unplowed roads. I felt like I was doing a c...

It Snowed For Our Parade of Lights. Tonight was Cedaredge, Colorado's Parade of Lights. It started snowing just as the parade got underway. It came down really light so we didn't get too wet. As usual it was a fun time with lots of lights and sirens. The gently falling snow really got me in the Christmas Mood. The town was all decked up with Christmas window displays and lights. The town put aside the hussel and bussel of the season to get ready for Santa's arrival. Everyone started lining the streets early and it was a great time to get caught up with some friends you haven't seen in a while. Santa arrived in fine fashion carrying a large torch. This one had all the kids excited...even me. I love this time of you. Merry Christmas Everyone. If you are looking to buy or sell property on ...

The Boys Are Back in Town...And I'm Not Talking About The Thin Lizzy Song. These guys have come to play and hide their heads. There's no bull here...only buck. I hope no buckshot, too. I would like to see this guy shopping around my neighborhood again next year. This was taken about a mile up the road from my house. Can't you just image the spread on this rack next year? I hope to see it. For all your Western Colorado Real Estate needs, please call me. It's tee time at the Deer Creek Village Golf Course. Don't let the weather fool you. You can play this course year around. This course has something for everyone. Add it to your list of must play courses...if for nothing else, for the views.    You can almost play this course year around because we are in the banana belt, and most of the snow melts off within a few days. The elevation is about 6100 feet. This allows you to get out of the heat in the summer and the ability to play most of the winter. There are two distinct nines and four tees for each hole. Along the way watch out for trophy deer and other wildlife. There are some giant bucks that hang out at this course. Or course there are some nice homes for sale along this course. Just call me for more information.   If you have any ...

It's like something from a Stephen King novel...Oh wait it is. The Stanley Hotel In Estes Park, Colorado is known as the hotel which influenced King when he wrote The Shining. He stayed at the hotel before he began this project, and supposedly had a close encounter with the undead. Although the actual ghosts in this hotel aren't evil like the ones in King's story. The original owners, F.O. and Flora Stanley ( of Stanley Steamer engine fame ) are said to be permanent residents. Mr. Stanley likes to haunt the Billard room and bar and Mrs. Stanley likes to play the piano.  The fourth floor of the hotel reportedly has the most paranormal activity. Some guests have complained about Children playing in the hallway late at night when there have been no children checked into that area of the ho...

The Town of Cedaredge, Main Street in particular, is like much of small town America.  Our Main Street could use a facelift...actually the face looks pretty good, but the lower body parts need some "work".  Tim Roberts, former Public Works Director, is heading up the Main Street Improvement Project and recently revealed a conceptual drawing of what the new Main Street could look like. Wow! Is it cool!  Wide sidewalks, center drive-thru parking, lovely streetlights - just so exciting!  One of the major reasons for the street/parking/sidewalk project is that one side of the street is about 2 feet higher than other side.  Well, what happens in winter in Cedaredge, Colorado?  SNOW!  The snow melts and runs across the street to the south side, into the shade, re-freezes overnight and we have...

Just after daylight every Memorial Day the local Boy Scout troops, Veterans and thankful citizens converge on the Cedaredge Cemetery to place huge American flags on poles. These are casket flags that have been used in the burial of  soldiers who have proudly served this nation.  I don't know the actual number of flags unfurled, but it is well over a hundred.  Let me add that the Cedaredge Cemetery sits atop a hill right in town and this huge display of American flags never fails to give me tears.   Several years ago I took two of my granddaughters with me to help attach the flags.  I want them to realize the great sacrifice that has been made and is now being made by incredibly brave men and women.  Those granddaughters are on their way to Nana's house tomorrow and we have already plan...
