Bear and Mountain Lion Sightings are Becoming Common Around Cedaredge Surface Creek area residents are being warned to watch out for some local wildlife. Wildlife sightings are always fairly common in this area, but this year we have some bold visitors with babies. As you know...any mother with babies will defend them when she feels there is a threat.  There's been several sightings of a mother mountain lion with cubs around the Surface Creek Trail. This area is popular with walkers, joggers and bikers. Kids also love to walk the trail. Warn your children to be alert and to stay away from any wild animals. Scenes From Celebrate Cedaredge, CO. The event was a nice success. Celebrate Cedaredge was put together to dedicate the newly designed Main Street. It was an event for the community to come together and have fun. Main Street was dedicated and some of the local building owners were given plaques officially giving their building historic designations.  It was fun for all ages. Hula hoops in the street, hop scotch and ice cream were catch phrases used by the younger crowd.  Friday night there was a street dance. Saturday morning the festivities started with the farmer's market in the park, and the Rotary Club Sponsored 5K. Cute Baby Fox Picture...Types of Foxes in Colorado. The other day while out driving looking for some writing inspiration, I found it. There were two young foxes playing along the side of the road. The fox population in Delta County must be doing pretty well, because I've been seeing them more and more.  This must be a Red Fox. This young one wasn't camera shy. The other one did run and hide, but this one acted like he wanted his picture taken. I got several pictures. The fox is a very interesting creature. It's usually shy, but this one wasn't. Parent foxes stay together until the young are raised. They eat small rodents like rabbits, mice and squirrels. Memorial Day Scenes from the Cedaredge Cemetery. This is the one of several days out of the year when the Cedaredge Cemetery is decked out. It's really quite the scene. The mountains paint a beautiful backdrop to the American Flags, and the landscaping is wonderfully done. It was a picture perfect day...you couldn't have ordered a better one.  Earlier today, there was a ceremony to honor our fallen soldiers. This was well attended. This was hosted by the local VFW and American Legion Posts. I know it's late in the day, but I had my holiday obligations and I took some time to observe this day for what it is really set aside for. One of my grandfathers and his son, my uncle Bill, served this country. Both were injured, and my uncle never returned from Vietnam. I told you his story last ye... 05/26/2014

Sometimes You Have to Leave the House to Get a Post Written. I was thinking of taking today off from writing and then I decided to take a short drive. Maybe inspiration would hit me. We've had unsettled weather, and I knew there would be some neat photo opps of clouds hanging on Grand Mesa. This picture shows the western side of Grand Mesa. It's the first part of the mesa to greet the clouds and rain. It rained a lot last night, and has been raining off and on all day. It looks like we have more rain coming our way. This picture looks across Cedaredge just north of the high school.  Our spring weather seems unusual...when in fact it's probably more normal then we realize. Scenes From Heritage Day Pioneer Town Cedaredge, CO. Pioneer Town is officially open for the 2014 summer season. The season kicked off with reduce priced admission and some special demonstrations.Pioneer Town will stay open through Applefest in early October. Most of the buildings are original old buildings that were brought in to make up the old time town. Today was special with many people set up to answer your questions and help guide you through the town. What is All the Utility Work Going on in Cedaredge, CO? The utility work started this May, 2014, and it's part of the SourceGas Expansion Project. If you're like me, you thought that project was finished last year. There was a lot of construction going on with Main Street getting a face lift and the new gas lines going in.  Now Cedaredge residents and those in most of the outlying areas have the choice to switch to natural gas.  The work this spring is the continuation of the project started last year.
