2014 Fall Color Update Grand Mesa, CO It's not peak color yet, but there is a lot of color to enjoy on Grand Mesa. It's worth the drive up there anytime...but the fall is especially beautiful with the aspens changing color for the season.  I was touring Grand Mesa this morning. The colors are really coming on. There appears to be more color on the north side but that's typical. Bring your camera and you won't be disappointed.  Find out what makes the trees change color. It depends on the weather.  There are many fall color drives on the Western Slope. Grand Mesa is in my backyard, so to speak, and I really enjoy taking day trips up there to check out the changing scenery.  September 28th, 2014 is the day officially set aside for Color Sunday on Grand Mesa. You might want to head up ther...

Cedaredge, CO is Getting a Brew Pub This is great news for the small mountain town of Cedaredge, CO. Revolution Brewery out of Paonia is setting up a tasting room and on site brewery on Main Street. The location is the old Pharmacy/Cedaredge Floral building. The new place will be called 4 Bs Brewing, LLC. The word on the street is that the Brewery will be open in mid October, but I can't find anyone to confirm that information.  Revolution Brewery has an amazing following in Paonia. The beer is all natural and it tastes great, too. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly and it certainly seems to be the place in town to hang out and meet friends.  Last year when Main Street was closed and under construction for months, Perry Hotz (Broker/owner Cedaredge Land Company) and myself, Debbie...

Throwback Thursday...Can You Name this Movie? The photo is recent, but the movie is a classic in my opinion. I use to love it when this show would hit the airwaves. No matter what I was doing, I would stop and come inside to watch this movie. If I kept a calendar back then...taking time to watch this movie would have been on it. Now I own the movie on DVD. I haven't seen the new version of it, but I intend to.  I had to post this, because I was pleasantly surprised that today's kids would find the old version of this movie entertaining. It speaks to how well this movie was done in every way...directing, acting, ect. A good friend of mine came over for a visit and brought his kids. It started to rain so they kids didn't want to play outside. I put this movie in for them, and dad had to w...

Wonderful Fish Taco Recipe with Corn Relish My good friend, Kathi Prough, is a wonderful and talented cook. She really has a keen sense of taste and knows how to blend ingredients together to make a special and tasty dish. I thought I would share her recipe for fish tacos with you. The corn relish really makes the tacos extra special. I could make a meal out of the corn relish alone.  Corn Relish...Make this several hours before you want to use it so the ingredients have time to blend together. I can whole kernel corn (or if in season, roast a couple ears of corn on the grill - a little black charring is great in this relish. Cut the corn off the cob.)  1 can black beans...drained and rinsed Half a medium onion...or to taste Dice a couple of small salad tomatoes One finely chopped jalap...

Tree Trimming and Removal Continues at Cedaredge Town Park The tree removal is in the interest of public safety. There are some really old cottonwood trees around one of the play areas in the Cedaredge Town Park. These trees aren't healthy and the large branches could fall and hurt someone or damage the playground equipment.  Most of the park is still open, but please avoid the area that has the yellow tape around it. The tennis courts, shelters and the stage are still available. It's only the playground area that is closed at this time.  My friends at Western Slope Tree Services are working hard to remove two of the very large, old cottonwoods. Leroy Higgs is the man in the video. He has to take the trees down in sections because of the playground equipment underneath them and the over...

Cedaredge and Hotchkiss CO to Consider New Marijuana Regulations Law enforcement, state, county and city officials are forced to consider changing existing laws, and implementing new regulations, now that marijuana is the new buzz word in Colorado. The small mountain towns of Cedaredge and Hotchkiss are following right along. Cedaredge's reaction is due to a situation that happened at a rental house in town. Public safety is the first concern of local town trustees and law enforcement. town trustees are discussing how best to regulate large-scale growing operations. Police Chief Dan Sanders says that large quantities of pot can't be banned because of a loophole in state's marijuana law. Several other communities in the state have already put forth new laws to regulate pot growing and th...

2014 Cedaredge Serenity Run Parade...It's a Parade of Motorcycles This is one of my favorite parades. It's loud, fun, unique and there's candy. This is a neat weekend in town. Actually the motorcycle riders start getting here around Wednesday or Thursday. The sounds of summer definitely change. It's louder around town that's for sure, but in an exciting way. This is the 29th year for the International Serenity run in Cedaredge. The Serenity Run is a gathering of motorcycle riders that have changed their lives. Most of them are following a recovery program after having issues with drugs and/or alcohol. The town embraces them and they in turn embrace the town and return year after year. They also put together this parade for us and host motorcycle games at Aspen Trails Campground north of...

They didn't go all the way like the season before, but they gave us a fine season we are all proud of. Cedaredge is a 1A school. In 2012  the Cedaredge Football Team was the Colorado 1A State Champion. Will The Bruins do it again this year? I would sure love to see that. 2014 Cedaredge CO International Serenity Run There's something in the air...it happens every time around the first weekend in August. There's something there, and you can't quite put your finger on it. Is it the extra noise?Vroom, vroom. Then you remember it's time for the International Serenity Run. This is a motorcycle biker gathering of the friendly sort.  This is the 29th year for the International Serenity Run in Cedaredge. This has become a popular local event, and the town rolls out the pavement for these motorcycle riders. One of the local restaurants stays open for three straight days (this is a big deal, because most places in Cedaredge shut down by 8:00pm), a local church hosts dinner and the VFW hosts breakfast for two days.  The International Serenity Run started in 1985.
