Scenes From the 2014 Cedaredge AppleFest Video AppleFest is always a blast in the small mountain town of Cedaredge, CO. You can sense the excitement in town the week before the festival. There are warm up events like the chili cookoff and the Golden Gala. I've lived in Cedaredge for 15 years, and I've seen this festival really grow from a one day event to a full weekend of great music, food and fun.  Over 10,000 people visit Cedaredge for AppleFest.  There are many vendors with all kinds of things to sell. I like looking for speciality food products. I get some neat ideas for some special dishes for the holidays.  Of course there are apples, too. Many of the orchards have booths where you can sample the different varities and buy your favorite ones to take home with you.  There is somet...

Sun Dog Pictures Cedaredge CO I learned something new today. I didn't know about sun dogs. I was outside of the office, and I noticed some people staring up at the sky. I asked them what we were suppose to be looking at. It was then I learned about sun dogs.  See the ring around the sun? This is a sun dog.  Sun dogs can happen anywhere in the world. They can be very bright or not so obvious. You may see a lot of color...or very little. Sun dogs look kind of like rainbows around the sun, but they aren't rainbows. Usually you see two bright spots on either side of the sun, but I didn't see these. They are best seen when the sun light is low. Today we had a lot of high thin cloud cover, and I think that's why it was easy to see them. I spotted two sun dogs.  Sun dogs are not uncommon. They...

It's Fall and Time to Take Those Hummingbird Feeders Down I'm guilty of it...I still have my feeders hanging up in the yard, but they will come in tomorrow and get a cleaning and then stored away for the winter.  Around here people will tell you to put your feeders away mid September. Our Colorado nights have already cooled down considerably by that time. These people believe that if you leave your feeder up, it will encourage the hummingbirds to stay around longer than they should. These birds don't do well in the cooler temperatures.  On the flip side, there are people that believe leaving them up is a good thing, because you will get the occasional stray that is late in the southward migration that needs a good meal.  I like the second idea, but that's just my opinion. I do know that...

Serendipity Sundays...I Happened to be Outside at The Right Time   I love a good rainbow. They are hard to get good pictures of unless you have something to give it perspective. At least that's my opinion. But I was lucky with this one...I was outside at just the right moment to catch it and see the second one appear. I hope you like the pictures.    These pictures was taken in town near Cedaredge Town Park on Monday.      I like this close up with the trees that border it.  Recent rains have blessed us with some great weather scenes.  I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 24 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home. As a REALTOR®, I also love to share my expertise in this area as well. Fall Colors and Snow...A Great Grand Mesa Drive Cedaredge has gotten quite a bit of rain over the last few days. At this time of the year, that usually means there's snow up on Grand Mesa. It started snowing on the mesa sometime around Sunday night. The rain was really coming down in Cedaredge this morning, so I decided to get an early taste of winter and take a drive up on Grand Mesa. I wasn't disappointed. This early in the season, my objective is to get some pictures of the fall colors with the snow. As of this morning, the snowline was down to about where you catch the Old Grand Mesa Road off of Highway 65.   Peak color season is past, but there was still enough color to make picture taking fun. The rain and snow have knocked down a lot of the leaves, but some are still hanging on. ...

Deed Restrictions versus Home Owners Associations in ColoradoDeed restrictions and homeowners associations kind of do the same thing...they tell you how a property may be used. In the case of both...the requirements are usually in place to protect a property and it's value. While the effect may be seen as the same, there is a difference. Both tend to have negative connotations with people, but they shouldn't. Deed restrictions are just that...restrictions written on the deed that place requirements on how a property can be used. Deed restrictions often only affect a single parcel of land. In some cases this may be done to protect the integrity and value of that property or of the neighboring properties. I've recently seen a case where the owners of a higher end subdivision bought the su...

What Makes the Leaves Change Color in the Fall? The one thing about fall that everyone looks forward to is the changing leaf colors. In Colorado our mountainsides glow with the gold color of the aspen trees. It's like another gold rush for our state. Have you ever wondered what makes the leaves change color? It really is dependent on the the weather. Actually those reds, golds and browns of fall are always there, but we don't see the colors during the summer months. The short days and cooler temperatures of fall, cause the trees to stop their food making process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction in the tree is what makes the leaves green. When the tree stops this process, the green color disappears and we see the other colors come out. Rainy seasons and droughts also affect ...

Cedaredge Chapel of the Cross Celebrates 25 Years The Chapel of the Cross in Cedaredge has the most beautiful setting. The grounds are wonderfully maintained and there are large trees that are a testament to Cedaredge's Tree City USA Designation. This year The Chapel of the Cross turns 25. If you are somewhat new to town...you might think it was older because of the design and because it's part of Pioneer Town, but the chapel is somewhat new to the old town of Cedaredge.  To mark the anniversary many people got together for a ceremony called "25 Years of Love and Music".  Don and Inez Petersen are the couple that took the dream of this chapel and made it a reality. They are no longer with us, but this celebration was a tribute to them as well. There were two musical performances, and af...
