The Voice of Aurora: Complete the widening of I-225 with FasTracks work (edit/delete) From the Aurora Sentinel, Colorado is like any other government, a massive bureaucracy slow to turn once momentum has begun. Still, the state has long shown a penchant for rising to the call and exhibiting a pluckiness indicative of life in the West.It is those attributes that have made it illegal to slander broccoli, an effort to protect the farmers in the state, and to lead the nation in requiring an open and accessible government. In Colorado, when the chips are down, its residents and leaders are not. That's the attitude needed to keep the state from wasting millions of increasingly rare taxpayer dollars in how and when it builds new light rail tracks along the Interstate 225 corridor and eventuall...

Aurora, Colo., boasts some sales bargains Close to Home: Aurora, Colo., boasts some sales bargains - This USATODAY.com article examines a major benefit of living in Aurora: home prices.  In the city's core neighborhoods, modest homes built in the 1940s and 1950s abound.  Aurora's median sales price in December jumped 10.6% from December a year ago.  Home foreclosures have slowed, which pushed prices up, as did a reduction in home inventory because of brisk fall sales.  The Anschutz expansion is revitalizing nearby neighborhoods because of the many doctors, nurses and support personnel working there.  "There was a lot of foreclosure in those areas, and now because of the impact of the medical center, we are finding people coming in and buying those houses," said David Barber, president o...

Iwo Jima Day 65 years ago this morning, the Marines landed on Iwo Jima. The battle raged on until March 16th. It was then that the final battle tally was realized. There were 21,000 Japanese soldiers defending Iwo Jima. There were only 1,083 survivors. Of the  Marines that fought in the battle, 4,189 were killed and over 19,000 were injured. To this day, there is still an argument whether this small island of volcanic ash and a few small airfields was worth the price that was paid. Strategically speaking, it is a great location. Almost halfway between Tokyo and Saipan. The position allowed any occupying force the ability to refuel and attack in either direction. This allowed the planes to carry more ammunition and less fuel. What is mot in dispute, is the fact that so many gave their li...

Just a reminder, we can educate our sellers and buyers  to be energy conscious.    With many projects, there are dollars available from the government.    $1.35 million will fund projects making energy-saving imporvements on homes and businesses.     Examples of residential programs would include - adding insulation & weatherization sealing or solar hot water heating systems, and loans for building owners to install solar electric, which decreases costs for energy. Wow!!! What a title! Love makes the World go 'Round; but Laughter keeps us from getting dizzy week. With Valentine's Day this weekend - love is in the air. Some people say too much love everywhere, enough to drive you crazy. So, to combat that, they have created Love makes the World go 'Round; but Laughter keeps us from getting dizzy week. With the spirit of that in mind, I thought that I would share a few. ""I have to have a raise in my commission," the agent said to his manager. "There are three other companies after me.""Is that so?" asked the manager. "What other companies are after you?""The electric company, the telephone company, and the gas company."                                                A client bought a new home and the broker wanted to send flowers for the occasion. ...

Today is World Cancer Day The World Health Organization estimates that 84 million people will die from cancer between 2005 and 2015. As someone who lost his Father to cancer, this is a very sobering number. Every year on February the 4th, the World Health Organization supports the Union Against Cancer to promote the prevention and cure for cancer. This year the theme is Cancer can be prevented too. So many different illnesses are treated by prevention and immunizations. Cancer doesn't have a vaccine (someday we hope). But, there are things that you can do with your lifestyle to help greatly reduce your chances of getting cancer. Regular Exercise Healthy Diet Don't use tobacco Limit your alcohol consumption Bottom line, a healthier lifestyle will greatly reduce your chances of getting ca...
