Aurora CO Animal Shelter - Featured Pet of the Week for March 22nd Ella (ID# A131209) is a 4-year old, spayed female, Alaskan Husky.  Ella’s most interesting feature is her eyes: one is blue and the other brown.  This doesn’t affect her vision, but makes her easily identifiable.  It’s obvious Ella’s previous owners spent a lot of time with her because she’s well socialized and gets along with children and other dogs.  She quickly responds to commands for sit, stay, lay and heel.  She appears to be house trained as well. This outstanding dog is available in kennel K38 at the Aurora Animal Shelter (15750 E. 32nd Avenue).  Call 303-326-8280 for adoption information. CO Mortgage If your Colorado mortgage is set to adjust this year, the smart move may be to let it. Today's conforming mortgages are adjusting lower than ever before -- as low as 3 percent.  It may not be what you expected when you signed for your ARM several years ago. The reason why ARMs are adjusting lower is because of how they're made. When conforming adjustable-rate CO mortgages adjust, they adjust according to a pre-determined formula. The formula is the sum of a constant and a variable.  The constant is usually 2.25 percent and the variable is a daily-changing interest rate called LIBOR. The formula looks like this: New Mortgage Rate = LIBOR + 2.250 percent LIBOR is an acronym for London Interbank Offered Rate.  It's an interest rate at which banks borrow money from each other. I...

Co Mortgage In November, Congress extended and expanded the Colorado First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit program to include a subset of "move-up" buyers -- homeowners that have owned and lived in their home for 5 of the last 8 years. The credit ranges up to $8,000 per buyer. There's now just 7 weeks left to take advantage. To be eligible, Colorado home buyers must be under contract for a new home no later than April 30, 2010, and must be closed no later than June 30, 2010. In addition to meeting the deadline dates, there's a basic set of requirements to be tax credit-eligible: You can't purchase the home from a parent, spouse, or child You can't purchase the home from an entity in which the seller is a majority owner You can't acquire the home by gift or inheritance Each buyer in the purch...

FYI re Pricing IncreasesSpecial Report 03/24/2010Pricing Deterioration - Why?As of 3:30EST, FNMA MBS 4.5 percent coupons have lost -69BPS.  Of course, the natural question is why?The decline is due to three primary reasons:1.) Health Care.  The long-bond buyers are very, very concerned about this.  Please read the following with the understanding that we are not making a statement if people should have health care run/provided by the government.  The foreign investors that purchase our long term debt in the form of Treasuries and MBS, we are looking at this from a purely inflationary viewpoint. No matter how you slice it, this is the biggest deficit machine that has been created in the last 60 years.  Yes, the CBO says that this new health care plan will reduce the deficit but that is no...

Sponsors, Players Needed for Golf Tourney Supporting Middle School Athletes Aurora CO During his 30 years as a middle school coach and physical education teacher in the Cherry Creek School District, Doug Mable has seen the positive impact sports have on young people. "I've seen how it helps them and the schools," said Mable. "Sports give them an opportunity to be involved instead of being out on the street from 2:30 p.m. on." Research conducted by the U.S. Department of Education shows that students who participate in school athletics have fewer unexcused absences and discipline referrals, have a higher grade point average, and are more likely to succeed in college than non-participants. In addition, student-athletes have fun while they improve their athletic abilities and fitness leve...

Aurora CO council approves massive development - The Aurora City Council Monday night approved a massive development in northeast Aurora despite concerns that the city was giving too much in incentives and that it deemed the property blighted.  The 500-acre mixed-use development is on the southwest corner of Interstate 70 and E-470.  After its completion in 25 years, the project will include 3,800 residential units and 1.3 million square feet of retail space.  All homes and buildings will meet green-building and energy-efficiency standards, according to Lend Lease.http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_14638388 What is your Aurora CO home value? "Rusty" (ID# A131328) and "Roxie" (ID# A131329) are both 9-month old Chihuahuas. This brother and sister team were found running loose together and brought to the Aurora Animal Shelter (15750 E. 32 nd Avenue). No one came to claim them, which is unusual for puppies. They may be adopted together, or individually. Rusty and Roxie are typical lap dogs and happy to sit quietly for petting. Although they are part of the 'toy breed' category, it is important that parents stress to children that tiny animals are not 'toys.' Chihuahuas and other miniature dogs are easily injured by rough play or from being dropped. Shelter staff does not recommend toy breeds for families with children younger than age 10. If you'd like to adopt Rusty or Roxie (or both), they are kennel K06 at the Aurora Animal...

Story written by Linda Meehan, Elkhart Elementary School How would it feel to have to write in the dirt with a stick to practice math problems? What would it be like to be ten years old and have to be your own teacher? In Greg Mortenson's book, Three Cups of Tea, some Elkhart 5th graders in the after school RaMS tutoring program learned that in Pakistan and Afghanistan, both are a reality. What's more, many young girls cannot go to school in those countries because their parents cannot afford to pay $20 per month for tuition. According to Mr. Mortenson, "When you educate a boy, you educate an individual, when you educate a girl, you educate a community." The Elkhart 5th graders were so touched by the situation in those countries that in late January, they wanted to join in Mr. Mortenson...

A Cherry Creek School District bus driver received two special honors on March 4; the heartfelt thanks of one of her students and his family, and the Asset Champion Award, presented by Community Asset Project board members. Linda Topping, a Cherry Creek Schools bus driver since 2007, was recognized for the extraordinary care she showed Cedar Wilde, a sixth-grader at Sky Vista Middle School. On the second day of school, when Wilde was uncertain about which bus he was supposed to ride home, Topping worked with Wilde, his mother, and school staff to ensure he got home safely. http://denver.yourhub.com/Aurora/Stories/School-News/Story~744695.aspx   What is your home value? Colorado Mortgage markets improved last week in low-volume trading. Between Monday to Thursday, Wall Street focused on the upcoming jobs reports and mortgage markets gained while traders jockeyed for position. Colorado Mortgage rates drifted lower through Thursday afternoon. But, then, after a better-than-expected Non-Farm Payrolls report Friday morning, mortgage markets -- and mortgage rates -- reversed. Overall, Colorado mortgage rates dropped last week, but only by a small margin. Rates were best Thursday afternoon. It was the second consecutive week in which mortgage rates fell. Last week was also interesting in that both stock markets and bond markets improved, proving that rates don't always rise when stock prices do. 455 of the S&P 500 companies posted gains last week. If you're ...
