While I'd been to Colorado in my youth, I'd never managed to get to Aspen, which seemed to be the home to the wealthy and the ski-dogs (read that as hot-dogging-skiers). Golden Leaf Half Marathon in Aspen - {Discover Colorado} This year would be the fourth year that we are running the Golden Leaf Half Marathon. (13.1 miles, 980 feet elevation gain, 1,712 feet mountainous trail descent) The past few years, we have always made it a weekend. We camped at Difficult Campground for which this is one of the last  weekends it's open. We were without the boys this summer of 2011. We had sent our 12 and 16 year old to Germany to be with their German family and get to know the country as well as the language. No boys? Strange. All of a sudden our family was so much smaller. We enjoyed some special time with our daughter Anna.  Why not explore Colorado enjoy the beauty it offers through the window of our suburban? They mistakenly think foreclosures and short sales are where to find the best deals. What they fail to realize is most of the Aspen foreclosures and short sales are not necessarily good deals because they are upside-down. In the summer of 2009 the Aspen, Colorado condo inventory peaked at about 400 units on the market. Over the past couple of years, this number has slowly eroded to about 200 which is about a 3.2 year supply at the current absorption rate. At the same time, the average asking price has fallen about 44% from a high of about $1,500/square foot in late 2008 to roughly $950/square foot today. In addition, the average days on market has steadily increased over the past couple of years to 316 days. In 2009, 54 condos sold in Aspen for a total dollar sales volume of $75.6M. I would be skiing in Aspen. I so love Florida, it is a blessing to be able to ride my bike a few miles and be right by the beach in Delray in Sunny Florida. But Aspen has such a great energy, specially by the Aspen Mountain. Sometimes I close my eyes and just imagine myself going down the mountain, skiing all the way to the bottom gondola.
